A video of a loyal golden retriever protecting a 2-year-old girl from a scolding parent in China has gone viral.
The video was filmed by the child’s mother. She says that the 5-year-old dog came to the girl’s rescue as she was admonishing her for bad behavior.
The mother also says that her daughter has grown up with Harry as her big and loyal companion. They share a special bond.
This story takes place in Xuzhou, China. The mother, Ms. Sun, says that she was upset to find that her daughter had used her facial creme tube as a toy.
She was scolding her daughter for ruining the cream when Harry came to her rescue.
The girl in the story is named You You. Her loyal friend Harry was named after the famed “Harry Potter” book and film franchise.
Harry doesn’t just shield You You from her scolding mother, however, he also growls at Mom to show he means business. That’s a loyal friend!
While Ms. Sun was upset that her facial cream was ruined, the dog’s reaction was so hilarious she decided to film the events. Others can be heard laughing in the background of the video as well. They do seem to be enjoying what was taking place.
Ms. Sun would later say that she was really upset at the time about her facial cream being used as a toy. She had just purchased it and only left it in the living room with her daughter as she went to make lunch.
When she returned, the mother found that her daughter had been playing with the tube of cream, and only half of its contents remained.
‘I was honestly really upset. I’d just bought the cream and half of it was already gone,’ Ms Sun, 32, told MailOnline. ‘My baby started crying because I was shouting at her quite aggressively.’
Whatever anger Ms. Sun had been feeling melted away when she saw how Harry reacted, however.
As the daughter was being scolded, Harry ran in to play the savior. He got in between You You and Ms. Sun to shield the crying girl.
As Ms. Sun continued to scold her child, Harry only grew more defensive. He would not move out of the way even when instructed to do so by the mother.
Not only did Harry try and protect You You, but he also comforted the poor girl.
He wrapped his little paw around her in the same way a comforting human would do to a friend.
Seeing Harry’s reaction calmed Ms. Sun down as well and she stopped scolding her child.
‘I was still upset but I thought it was also quite funny.’ Ms Sun said. ‘It was very heart-warming. Dogs would find ways to express their love if you treat them properly.’
Ms. Sun also says this is not the first time that Harry has come to You You’s protection either.
‘Whenever we speak to [You You] in a harsh tone, he would come over and try to shield her with his paws,’ she added. ‘He would protect the child with his life.’
Some who have viewed the video are skeptical of its authenticity, however. They even accused Ms. Sun of having staged the events.
Some users brought up that Harry only started growling after being touched by their owner. Another said that the video must be edited and that the mother must have taught the dog to hug the child.
Ms. Sun refutes these allegations, however, and says the video shows only Harry’s natural instincts to protect You You.
Ms. Sun has also said that she chose to document these moments because one day Harry will be gone and they will want to remember him. These moments certainly give the family a lot to remember him by.
“I was just documenting the daily moments of my dog and daughter because Harry is turning six years old soon and getting old,” Ms Sun said.
“I just wanted to capture these memories so I have something to look back on in the future when he’s not here anymore.”
