It is no doubt that kids can be mysterious creatures. Sometimes they do things we just do not understand, like play games that don’t make sense, eat way more candy than we could ever stomach, and get mad over silly things. Whatever it is though, you can’t say that children are straight up weird.
Last summer, Cappabue National School — a primary school located in Ireland — showcased their very whacky sense of humor when they uploaded this video to YouTube.
The video is entitled “Origin of the Species,” and it pretty much does just that. It explains the beginning of the “species,” which in this case, is the children.
The hilarious video looks at children as if they are more like strange creatures from another planet and less like, well, human children.
“Home to one of the most extraordinary communities of animals on the planet,” an older man curiously narrates at the very beginning of the clip. “Scientists are making astonishing discoveries about the creatures that we thought we knew.”
With the opening narration comes a shot of the children walking into their school.
“The days are beginning to shorten and a primeval sound [signals] the onset of autumn,” the voiceover continues as a bell rings. “Creatures are stirring.”
As the video shows the kids marching into school “like zombies,” it is clear that they are acting — and they are having a blast with it too. While they all try to act serious and play their parts, they crack a smile and still manage to break out in giggles here and there. It’s so cute to watch, knowing that they were having fun making such a silly clip!
The story progresses and takes us more into the world of the “creatures.”
“This is a bizarre world of miniature creatures,” the voiceover says. “Infants are hardly bigger than kittens.”
We then see the kids during playtime, coloring and playing with different toys. After that, we see the kids gathered around a table playing cards. Then, it cuts to a little girl eating a sandwich.
“No one knows why the creatures here are so small. For its size, it’s said that the animal can eat more in one sitting than any other. That’s why it’s also known as The Gluten,” the voiceover says.
The 6 minute-long video is filled with so much curiosity and strangeness, it’s hard not to keep watching to see what happens next.
Later on, we see the kids running and playing outside, playing a light game of soccer which is referred to as a “battle,” and we even get a shot of some adults.
“Some have been here for 5,000 years. The oldest organisms on the planet. The principals are the same,” he says.
The way that this video portrays these young kids is absolutely hilarious. It highlights all of their “problems” and “struggles,” making it feel like they really live in a different, dog-eat-dog universe.
