There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of doing something yourself.
And when it doesn’t cost you a fortune, that feels even better.
When Elliot and Hannah moved into their 100-year-old farmhouse, they had no intention of staying.
According to their website, “Hannah’s parents graciously offered to let us stay in their vacant farmhouse and we figured it would just be a temporary transition spot.”
But soon after moving in and renovating a few things, they quickly fell in love, not only with the house but with the restoration process as well.
They started documenting their process and uploading the videos onto YouTube.
And before they knew it, Elliot and Hannah had over 160,000 subscribers and their videos were getting millions of views.
Now, with the momentum rolling, they plan to continue renovating the old farmhouse, room by room, until it is completely restored.
And as an added bonus, they really enjoy what they’re doing!
Eliott writes that “Restoring the farmhouse and making YouTube videos combined all of my passions, from problem-solving, designing and building, to my newly found interest in videography and editing.”
With this room, in particular, they wanted to restore all of its original charm.
That meant pulling up the carpet to reveal hardwood flooring, removing the plaster walls to reveal the brick support-beams, and giving the cabinets and walls a fresh coat of paint.
Had they decided to have a professional company come in and do the restoration for them, it would have cost thousands, if not tens of thousands.
According to HomeAdvisor, it can cost anywhere from $10-$50 per square foot to renovate a farmhouse. And that’s on the low end.
Should you need to restore kitchens or bathrooms (which are the most expensive rooms), or run into any coding issues, then that $10-$50 estimate quickly jumps up to around $200 per square foot.
Yikes.
It looks like Elliot and Hannah made the right financial decision on this one.
Although it required lots of time and effort, the money saved was well worth it.
And to top it all off, the transformation looks amazing!
The stained-wood floors and fresh coat of paint transport this room from a drab, 70’s TV den, to a sleek and modern living space with a refreshing rustic feel.
With this room finished, Elliot and Hannah have no intention of slowing down anytime soon.
According to the floorplan on their website, they’ve already renovated over 60% of the rooms in the house.
They are currently working on renovating the entryway and kitchen on the first floor and when those are done, they’ll move onto the master bedroom/bathroom and the laundry room.
And that’s it!
Once they’ve completed these final rooms the entire house will be completely renovated.
And luckily for us, we’ll be invited in to witness the transformation every step of the way.

Elliot and Hannah didn’t either.
Elliot says, “I ended up watching a lot of DIY videos and learning everything and anything on YouTube. The house was in need of updating so we started restoring the farmhouse with the little experience we had, figuring we would just learn as we go.”
