Family captures video of neighbors taking a friendly dip in their pool
These bears swimming in a pool and cooling off act just like people!

It isn’t cool when your neighbors come over to use your pool without asking, I think most of the civilized world knows that. But it’s very cool and maybe a little bit frightening when the pool hogs are freakin’ bears!

Cindy Dorow of Gatlinburg, Tennessee looked out her window one day to find

a small family of bears using her pool.

It looks like a mama bear and her two cubs just looking for a bit of respite from the summer sun! Even better, it really looks like they’re having a good time.

They just look like a regular, every day, super fluffy family.

The two cubs horse around somewhat, the mum is just there to chill, and we even get a couple peaks of the cubs shaking their heads around covergirl style!

Just look at the big grin on mom!

Cindy actually had a second instance of finding these bears in her pool again, which you can watch here, and mama bear even came right up to the door!

They seem pretty friendly, but I don’t think you’d want to go out and join them for a swim!

Both videos are really fun to watch, and it’s really sweet to see how these bears act so normal and innocent. You can really see their individual personalities shine through as well!

Eventually, once the bears have had their soak, they slowly start to get up. A leisurely pace is an understatement!

Utterly shameless! I love it.

And then, my personally favourite part of the video, the bears simply walk over to the still very much closed and locked fence, and hop it like they’ve done it a million times before!

Mama bear goes first, and she obviously has the utmost confidence in her cubs to get over all by themselves.

She immediately heads out like “figure it out or catch up, k bye.”

And of course the little cubs may as well be spider monkeys and climb the fence with no problems at all and run off to catch up with mom! Off to go do bear things I guess, like… catch salmon? Honestly I don’t know what they’d be getting up to in a residential district in August.

The Tennessee government actually acknowledges how often bears are seen and gives advice on how to coexist with them peacefully:

  • Never feed or approach bears!

  • If a bear approaches you in the wild, it is probably trying to assess your presence.

  • If you see a black bear from a distance, alter your route of travel, return the way you came, or wait until it leaves the area.

  • Make your presence known by yelling and shouting at the bear in an attempt to scare it away.

  • If approached by a bear, stand your ground, raise your arms to appear larger, yell and throw rocks or sticks until it leaves the area.

  • When camping in bear country, keep all food stored in a vehicle and away from tents.

  • Never run from a black bear! This will often trigger its natural instinct to chase.

  • If a black bear attacks, fight back aggressively and do not play dead! Use pepper spray, sticks, rocks, or anything you can find to defend yourself. If cornered or threatened, bears may slap the ground, “pop” their jaws or “huff” as a warning. If you see these behaviors, you are too close! Slowly back away while facing the bear at all times.

The response on YouTube has been hugely positive, with the first video getting over 2.9 million views! The followup video was still wildly popular with over 600 thousand views itself!
