Nandi Bushell has been sharing her killer drum solos on YouTube since she was just six. Now, at 10 years old, she’s challenging some of the great drummers to rock alongside her.

In August of 2020, Bushell decided to call out former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighter’s founder Dave Grohl.

In just a few weeks, her cover of the Foo Fighters’ 1997 hit “Everlong” has been viewed nearly two million times.

“My dream is to one day jam with Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins and all the @Foo Fighters! Mr Grohl I would love to have a drum battle with you! I LOVE Everlong it’s really hard to play as it’s so fast but so much FUN!!!,” she wrote in her video caption.

She also uploaded her plea to Twitter – and at that point, Grohl couldn’t ignore it anymore.

According to the Los Angeles Times, he received “at least 100 texts from people all over the world saying, ‘This girl is challenging you to a drum-off. What are you gonna do?’”

By the weekend, Grohl responded via the Foo Fighters Twitter account. He accepted the challenge and banged back with Them Crooked Vultures’ “Dead End Friends.”

“Hey @Nandi_Bushell!” Grohl wrote on twitter. “Challenge accepted. Haven’t played these songs in a loooooong time…..thanks for the inspiration!!! Your move!!! Your friend in rock, Dave.”

Needless to day, the pre-teen was pretty stoked.

But now the ball was in her court.

“This is UNREAL! I can’t believe Dave Grohl actually accepted my drum battle, Thank you! Now it’s my turn to learn ‘dead end friends’ by @crookedvultures! I am going to checkmate this one too!” she replied.

It didn’t take her long to practice her comeback – she’s quite the prodigy after all.

She not only uploaded a video of her rendition of Grohl’s choice of song, but she even managed to replicate some of his drumstick maneuvers.

Against all odds, Grohl conceded victory in Round 1 to Bushell.

He Tweeted:

“Ok, @Nandi_Bushell……you win round one….but it ain’t over yet! Buckle up, cuz I have something special in mind… Stay tuned, Dave.”

That was September 3rd. It hasn’t yet been a week, but fans are eagerly awaiting Bushell’s next challenge.

Only one thing is for sure – this battle isn’t over yet.

Nandi’s parents – John and Lungi Bushell – are the ones behind her social media accounts and are both proud and protective of their daughter (making it clear that they manage things behind the scenes).

Dad says Nandi inherited her musical talent from his side of the family.

“I have been in bands since I was 16,” he told the SundayTimes. “I have met a lot of drummers over the years, really good ones. I can’t play the drums but I understand good timing.”

Nandi said it’s her dad’s love of music that introduced her to bands from The Beatles to the Foo Fighters to begin with.

Of course, everything went up a level when they brought home that drum kit.

“When we brought the toy drum kit home when Nandi was five, she instantly kept a beat going with perfect timing. I could not believe what I was hearing. It was beat-perfect and instinctive,” John said.

Her first drumming idol? Ringo Starr.

“I like watching Ringo play the drums. That’s why I wanted to play the drums. Now I just love playing the drums. I like the way it makes me feel and it’s so much fun,” Nandi explained.
