Sometimes of the places we visit so often can have the greatest stories that are unknown to us. One place so many of us visit hundreds of times in our lifetime is the gas station. Whether we are just filling up our tank or on a road trip stopping to get a quick bite there’s a lot more that goes on at the gas station than appears at first glance. Especially for those working the counter day and night.

In Arvada, Colorado a convenience store clerk named Rebecca Montano was going through her daily routine workday at Alta Convenience Store while ringing up a customer’s soda purchase when she noticed her expression changed strangely which is when she knew something wasn’t right.

When the young mother approached Rebecca she was holding her baby on her hip and was going through her wallet to get money to check out a liter of soda.

While Rebecca was scanning the soda she was also entertaining the baby who is only a few months old when she looked up at the mother whose face went blank and had a glazed look in her eye. Rebecca recalls the moment to Inside Edition saying,

“I wanted to make the baby smile because I love babies, I am a mom and grandma, I look at the mom and she has a blank stare and something in me said something wasn’t right.”

Rebecca continued to ask the mother if she was okay but received no response then the mother began to sway.

Immediately Rebecca’s motherly and grandmotherly instincts kicked in and she reached to grab the child. She continued to explain the situation saying,

“She started to sway so I grabbed the baby’s arms…[The mother] was lost in space. I said, ‘I gotta take this baby’ and took the baby out of her arms. When I did that she started to fall.”

Once Rebecca secured the baby in her arms she tries to grab onto the mother’s arm to help her fall down slowly as the mother begins to have a seizure.

Another customer shortly after this all happened rushes to the scene to help. Once he sets what in his hands on the counter Rebecca hands him the baby so she can check on the mother and call 911.

As the other customer held the baby the dispatcher was giving Rebecca instructions on how to help the mother before the paramedics arrived.

A few days later the two women were reunited when the mother came back to thank Rebecca in person for saving her baby’s life. She informed Rebecca that she has suffered from seizures since she was little. Rebecca explained that moment to Inside Edition saying,

“It was scary, it upset me terribly, every time I watch the clip I shake because I don’t like it. It brings tears to my eyes. Now I feel better because I know the girl is OK.”

Although Rebbeca denies doing anything heroic to this young mother and her baby as well as those who discover this story she is a hero.
