As we all know, divorce is a very serious topic. But in one funny story, an elderly man turns the table and uses it as a perfect ploy. For what? Well, you’ll have to keep reading.

Retirement living

After retiring, a lot of older people sell their homes and move into a retirement community. The kids are grown and taking care of a large house becomes increasingly more difficult. Not only do they get to live around other people their ages but also have a fun time doing it.

Keeping the family together

Once kids grow up and begin to have children of their own, it’s often hard to get family members together for the holidays. Take Thanksgiving as a prime example. It’s not about having limited space for everyone but more about scheduling conflicts.

Important news

So, here’s how one hilarious story goes that entails both divorce and Thanksgiving. An older man who lives in an Ohio retirement community with his wife called their son who resides in Los Angeles. He starts by saying that he hates to ruin his son’s day but that he has some important news to share.

No way

The dad states, “I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing, forty-five years of misery is enough.” Shocked, his son instinctively screams into the phone, “Dad, what do you mean by this? To that, his dad said, “We can’t stand looking at each other any longer…we’re tired of each other, and I’m over talking about this.”

Sharing the devastating news

It’s at that point the dad tells his son to call his sister in The Big Apple to let her know what’s going on. Abruptly, the elderly man hangs up the phone. His boy is dismayed, frustrated, and even angry.

Contacting the sister

As his dad requested, the son called his sister. Here, you have someone who’s absolutely frantic and a sister who’s madder than a wet hen. She explodes.

Putting her foot down

Before finishing the call, the sister shouts, “They won’t even think about getting a divorced if I have anything to do with it.” She states that she’ll take care of the matter. Then she hangs up.

Time to talk to her parents

Immediately, the daughter calls the parents. She starts screaming at her dad, saying, “You are NOT getting divorced. Don’t do anything until I arrive. I’m calling my brother back and we’ll see you tomorrow.”

She’s serious

Her last words to her father before ending the call were, “Until then, don’t do not one thing. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?” Soon afterward, she and her brother booked flights to Cleveland, Ohio. By golly, they were going to put a stop to this madness at any cost.

A perfectly executed plan

Now that this dad has spoken to both the kids, he turns to his wife. That’s when he tells her, “Okay, they’re coming for Thanksgiving. Now, what do we tell them for Christmas?”

You have to admit, he played his hand perfectly.

Okay, so this might’ve been sneaky, but it worked. Hopefully, they had an amazing time together. We just hope there’s a follow-up story about Christmas.
