Dogs really are some of the most loving animals, and they’re always looking for an opportunity to make friends. Aside from a dog’s number one enemy (the mailman), chances are, if you bring a stranger onto your property, your dog is going to be instantly planning for how to become their new best friend.
One golden retriever rescue from the US is not exempt to this, and has developed an extra special friendship with someone pretty unexpected.
Despite only visiting twice-weekly to do his rounds, the garbage man has a very special place in this doggo’s heart – and each time the man arrives, the sweet dog is waiting excitedly to greet him! The dog’s owner managed to capture one meeting on camera, and it’s the sweetest thing we’ve seen today.
The footage is filmed by dog owner Josh Byrne, and it features his adorable golden retriever named Shelby. Josh was the first to post the video onto his YouTube channel, along with the caption:
“Every week the garbage man takes time to see my pup and say hi. Who said that nice people are hard to find?”
Since then, the video has been taken down, but luckily we’ve managed to find another YouTube channel who reposted the sweet clip.
Short clips reposted the adorable video back in 2019, and since being shared it has received over 400k views. The video begins with an orange dumpster truck pulling up outside of the house where Shelby and her owner are waiting. As the truck comes to a stop, Shelby can hardly contain her excitement, and before the driver has even fully climbed out she is already running down the yard to greet him.
As the pair greet each other, it’s pretty clear that the feeling of love is mutual, and the garbage man can’t help a huge smile from spreading over his face as he pets Shelby.
It seems that Josh and Shelby’s buddy have also struck up a friendship, as once the man is done petting Shelby, he approaches Josh to have a chat and a catch-up. Of course, Shelby isn’t too happy about the attention being taken away from her, and she continues to jump around the garbage man in a bid to try and get more cuddles.
It turns out Shelby’s love and affection isn’t just saved for the garbage man.
In another video posted by Josh (which has also since been taken down), Shelby can be seen loving on her little human sister. The video was captioned:
“Shelby the Golden is back from loving the garbage man during the day to loving my little girl. Every morning my two little pups take a few moments to just love each other. In their own little way.”
How adorable! Shelby’s kind nature means that she has more than enough love to go round to everyone, and we’re dying to meet her for ourselves! Watch the sweet video below.
