Remember when you were little and you were allowed to do something for the first time? Maybe it was eating something that always looked delicious or having your first sleepover. It’s a moment – and some people just can’t control their excitement when it happens.

That’s something Pepper the “wiener dog” understands well.

Pepper is an adorable dachshund.

Anyone who has ever owned a dachshund knows that they’re already pretty excitable creatures. But they also have a bit of a naughty streak.

Pepper had always wanted to climb onto his owner’s bed. After all, the people he loves are up there, and it’s also soft and warm.

But Pepper’s owner had always maintained a strict “No dogs on the bed” policy.

Alas, Pepper was determined to break that rule.

One day, after months of pleading, Pepper’s owner finally relented. She knew that the little dog would really appreciate it. So she told Pepper to climb on up, and the little dog made a beeline for the bed.

Then he leaped up onto the soft, soft mattress.

Pepper scrambled all across the bed, still not quite believing that he was allowed to enjoy this.

He kept on running in circles across the bed, never wanting this feeling of joy to end.

Pepper’s owner had to go downstairs, so she left Pepper to enjoy the bed for a little longer. And when she went back up to check on Pepper, the little dog was still running around in circles on the bed!

How was he not worn out? Hours later, Pepper was still running around on the mattress excitedly.

Pepper’s dog sister joined Pepper on the bed.

She was also allowed on the bed for the first time, which she liked, but she wasn’t going crazy about it, like Pepper. Pepper’s sister sat down and started playing with a raccoon toy. Pepper kept on running around, not letting his sister get in the way of his fun.

Eventually, Pepper tired himself out and lay down on the bed, enjoying its softness.

Pepper really learned that good things come to those who wait! Luckily Pepper’s owner was filming the entire thing. She uploaded the video onto YouTube, where it soon went viral. To date, it’s been viewed over 2 million times.

And commenters can’t get enough of the sweet “sausage dog”:

“I love that animals just appreciate the little things.”

“O.M.G! This is so cute I’m having a stroke. Stop the cuteness immediately. The big dog with the toy raccoon. The puppy. Stop. I mean it – no more cuteness. Can. Not. Take. It.”

Thanks, Pepper, for showing us how to appreciate the things that are really important.
