We love our pets more than anything in the world, and most of us would do whatever it takes to keep them safe and well.

A dog can be your best friend, your un-biological child, mental health booster, exercise-encourager, and source of comfort all rolled into one. They would do anything for you and you would do anything for them. The love you share really is something special.

With this in mind, finding out that your beloved pooch has been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness is one of a pet owner’s worst nightmares.

Meet Scout, a seven-year-old golden retriever who’s a bit of a celebrity! You may recognise him as the mascot for his owner’s business, WeatherTech.

David MacNeil’s company manufactures automotive accessories as well as pet care products, so Scout is the ideal face for the business.

But last year, Scout and his owner were hit with some devastating news.

Cancer. Tests had shown that Scout had a tumor on his heart, and it was a particularly aggressive one.

Heartbreakingly, Scout was given just one month to live, with survival rates being just one percent.

This little guy was about to have his life taken away from him far too early.

But David was determined not to give up. He told WMTV,

“There he was in this little room, standing in the corner… and he’s wagging his tail at me. I’m like, ‘I’m not putting that dog down. There’s just absolutely no way.’”

David decided to turn to the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, where amazingly, they “devised a cutting-edge treatment plan that has resulted in Scout’s tumor all but disappearing.”

Scout is continuing with his treatment to make sure that he’s one hundred percent better, but it is undoubtedly a true miracle that the amazing vets at the university were able to save his life.

David knew that he’d have to do something to thank the team for all of their efforts.

Being the owner of a very successful company, David wanted to repay the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine in the best way possible.

Determined to give the university more publicity, he invested around 6 million dollars into creating a Super Bowl ad that would be seen by hundreds of thousands.

The heartwarming ad features Scout and the amazing vets who saved his life, and it discusses the pooch’s amazing recovery through his own little doggy perspective.

The ad begins by saying, “Hi, I’m Scout, and I’m a lucky dog…” before going on to explain how the pup has beat cancer against all odds thanks to the university’s extensive research.

David then appeals for donations so that the university is able to continue with their groundbreaking research and save more lives.

So, how is Scout feeling now?

David Vail, a professor at the school, told WMTV,

“Scout is kind of the perfect patient in that he’s tolerated multiple modes of therapy very well, his primary tumor has responded beautifully to treatment, and we’ve been able to maintain his quality of life at a very high level.”

This is excellent news! The team at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine is truly amazing, and we wish Scout the best of luck with his recovery.
