Traveling is a privilege that most of us in the Western world commonly take for granted.

However for many others around the globe, traveling is quite a luxury, and this young man graciously understood that.

Vikas Jyani, a young man from a rural village in India, always had a dream of becoming a pilot. In his venture to accomplish his dream, he made a promise to the elders in his provincial village that, once he became a pilot, he would share the experience of travel with all of them.

Recently, as a newly licensed pilot, Vikas followed through with his promise and arranged travel for all the elders in his community.

The elders, ranging from 70 – 90 years old, flew from New Delhi to Amritsar, where they visited what many call the “Golden Trio,” which included the sacred Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Wagah Border. For many of the elders, this was the first time they had the opportunity to visit these cherished destinations, giving them an experience they’ll hold close to their hearts forever.

For many elders, it was the first time they had traveled by plane. In fact, some of them had never even seen an airplane in person before.

The village elders were quite moved by Vikas’s thoughtful gesture. One of the elders, who is 90 years old, declared, “Many people make promises to the elderly, but [Vikas] kept his word.”

Vikas’s father proudly stated, “He fulfilled his dream, and that’s the most important thing for me. All youth should follow Vikas’s example, and we should all respect our elders.”

Rather than overlooking the elders in his village, Vikas’s actions exhibited a great sign of respect and compassion. His heartwarming gesture has captured the hearts of thousands worldwide, demonstrating the power of thoughtful acts of kindness.

Vikas serves as an example for all of us, in that, as he accomplished his own personal goal, he also shared his positive feats with others in his community. He carried out his promise and gave the group of elders an experience they will forever appreciate.
