Bears famously spend the winter hibernating, but it turns out, they also like relaxing at other times of the year. They’ll take any opportunity they can to sit back and chill.

One bear in Canada demonstrated how much he loves the chill life. When he saw a couch on the side of the road, he immediately got cozy on it.

In October, it’s common for bears to frantically scurry around and get their fill of as much fatty food as possible before their long winter nap. In fact, the chubbier they are, the better their chance of survival!

But, what was he thinking?

Winter had already come and gone, and it was springtime when he was caught curling up on the sofa.

Wildlife photographers have captured many amazing bears in their natural elements throughout the years. But, no one has ever captured a moment like this!

That’s because it’s by no means normal bear behavior.

The ground thaw had barely melted when Mandy Stantic snapped this funny photo of this very chill-looking dude taking a break from his hard and fast bear life.

The nurse was driving around with her family in Lac Brochet, in Manitoba, Canada when she caught a glimpse of this cheeky bear reclining on the couch like he didn’t have a care in the world.

The wild bear was digging around a landfill for some grub when he was lucky enough to spot this very comfy-looking couch.

So what’s a tired, hardworking bear supposed to do?

Plop down on the couch and relax, of course!

Mandy told The Dodo:

“It’s all forest surrounding the dump for hundreds of miles. There’s more than enough to eat for them, but the berries aren’t out yet in the spring and garbage is easy pickings so that’s why they all congregate there.”

Mandy took her daughter on a “northern safari to their local garbage dump that day” (only in Canada, eh?) when they noticed some bears poking around.

One of them in particular was relaxing with a human-like pose on a discarded couch.

As her family observed the bears from the safety of their car, the old adage about one person’s trash becoming another person’s treasure became abundantly clear.

“I guess this particular bear had eaten his fill and was ready to relax on the couch. All he needed was some popcorn and Netflix.”

What made this photo op so astounding was just how perfectly at ease this black bear appeared to be, sitting upright and with his legs crossed all lady-like, on the dirty sofa.

The image was so surprising, it made the news!

This garbage dump is well-known in the local community for this temporary bear habitat. It turns out that human refuse is an easy source of food!

The bears have become so used to vehicles dumping garbage at regular intervals, that they’ll straight towards the bags as soon as they’ve been dropped off.

Mandy told the CBC that there was a discarded TV in front of the couch, which made this impossibly funny situation even more hilarious.

“You don’t see animals kind of imitating [humans] — sitting with their legs crossed, arms over the chair there. He’s just posing, just like a person.”

This photo was so perfectly timed, it makes complete sense that it went viral. After all, how often can you say that you’ve seen a bear watching TV?
