12-year-old Jada Miller of Kenosha, Wisconsin recently became a hero, saving her four-year-old neighbor Caylee Carr from a child abduction. But Jada isn’t the only person who deserves credit for the rescue, various members of the community stepped forward to prevent what could have become a tragedy.
On a normal Thursday, Caylee was playing with other local children when the neighborhood’s new resident grabbed her by the wrist, thinking nobody was looking, and started walking her away. Neighbor Trinity Stout witnessed the event, advising Jada on a plan of action, saying, “I told her to get the little girl and I was going to get her parents,” according to Fox 6 Now.
Jada took immediate action, taking off after the suspect. She ran down the block and proceeded to grab Caylee away from him. In the meantime, Trinity went to tell Jeff, Caylee’s father.
In an interview with local TMJ4 News, Jada recalls the details of the event. She remembers quickly running to find the abducted child and forcing her away from the suspect.
Jeff also gives his perspective of that scary day, describing his want to personally fetch and rescue his daughter, but his inability to do so. Jeff states, “I wanted to go chase after him, I really did. But that’s not how it was brought up, so I just called the police right away.” Although difficult, this was likely the best course of action at the time.
His facial expressions display worry even as he recalls the incident. Jada, standing next to Jeff, gets emotional during the interview. Upon saving Caylee, she remembers talking directly to the suspect. She remembers Caylee stating, “I’ll be back,” to which Jada turned towards Benjamin and stated bluntly, “No she won’t.” Her sure-minded decision making might have made the difference between nothing and a true tragedy.
Thankfully, Caylee’s neighbors were looking out for her, promptly responding perfectly in this moment of crisis. Trinity and Jada, especially, came out as heroes that day.
According to Fox 6 Now news, the suspect, Benjamin Spasogevich-Lee, had recently moved into the neighborhood, staying with family members. He originally told the community that his name was Elijah. Off the bat, community members knew something was off. He could be seen doing yoga in his underwear outside of his home and even asked a group of kids about rape and kidnapping. He was once seen stripping down to his underwear when the school bus came to pick up the local children. Jeff recalls that he even harassed his wife.
As a result of the events, Spasogevich-Lee faces charges of child abduction and disorderly conduct. He claims to have done nothing wrong. After posting bail he has been ordered to have absolutely no contact with anybody under the age of 18.
That fateful Thursday evening, Caylee’s community stepped up in a big way. Jada, especially, helped save the day. She certainly isn’t Batman; instead, she’s a real hero. Who knows what would have happened if she had not acted with strong judgement, or if she had not been there at all.
