Artist Crafts Amazing Sculptures From Old Watch Parts

March 14th, 2019

When one thinks of mechanical parts, some of the last things that come to mind are probably the words “adorable.”

But New York-based artists Sue Beatrice has pulled off this feat.

Her company All Natural Arts transforms old mechanical watch parts into the cutest steampunk-style creatures and other sculptures.

Beatrice uses recycled pieces like gears and sprockets from vintage pocket watches.

While some of us might see the vintage watches as nostalgic pieces of junk, Beatrice envisions them as animals and magical creatures.

Beatrice sells her one-of-a-kind pieces on Etsy and her website along with other whimsical pendants that are sculpted to perfection.

In addition to selling her items online, Beatrice works as a professional commercial sculptor and has created pieces for Disney, Jim Henson, Warner Brothers, Universal, DC Comics, Sony Entertainment and many more, according to graphic designer Karen Hurley’s website.

I can’t imagine the time and attention it takes to make these beautiful pieces.

She’s handcrafted all types of creatures like an adorable rabbit that can fit in the palm of your hand, a carousel horse, and a tiny fairy that can perch atop your fingertip.

They envoke a bit of fantasy and wonder here in the regular world.

She also makes pieces within a pocket watch frame.

So she reuses all of the parts of the pocket watch.

She removes all of the “guts” of a pocket watch (its springs, wheels, and gears) and replaces it with an incredible mini sculpture using these parts.

She created a music scene in one, a lion in another, and a fairy playing with a wheel.

My favorite is the angel or bird wing with a red heart in the middle.

It’s one of the only pieces I’ve seen that use color which make it really pop.

Her commissioned pieces are stunning and include scenes with Edgar Allen Poe and Shakespeare.

According to her website, Beatrice lives in Sea Cliff, NY and has been a professional artist for more than 30 years.

She studied at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts before joining The Franklin Mint.

“Sue’s artwork covers many specialties from commercial illustration to fine art on canvas but sculpture is her main focus,” her website says. “She is comfortable working in a wide range of mediums including clay, wax, metal, cement, sand, pumpkin, and mixed media and in any scale from micro-miniature to monumental.”

She is also a world record-breaking pumpkin carver and loves to create whimsical animals and mythological creature within these fruits.

All of her work is breathtaking but her watch sculptures are something we’ve never seen before.

“Sue’s watch sculptures are created with antique parts and combine the beauty of the delicate inner workings of the timepieces with a variety of themes ranging from nature, love, mortality and even scenes from history. Her one-of-a-kind designs are sought after by galleries and collectors all over the world.”
