When the Antique Roadshow stopped at Bonanzville in Fargo, North Dakota, they came across an Air Force veteran who had one of the rarest Rolex’s they had ever seen. Purchased in 1974 for $345.97, what was a month’s salary in the military back then.
He explains that he had originally wanted it for scuba diving, but upon seeing its beauty, he couldn’t bring himself to soak it in the salty water. Now, all these years later he took it on the antique roadshow to see what it was worth.
Locked in a deposit box for the last 40-years, he had only taken it out a couple of times to admire it, but never wore it
The Rolex Oyster Cosmograph has all the original boxes and documentation which helps to bring it’s value even higher. Some of the papers alone would fetch thousands, even without the watch.
Yes, the documentation is good, but that’s not what makes this watch so valuable. A famous actor wore the same model in an iconic movie, which makes it very rare but this one has some extra features that make it beat out the one from Hollywood.
