If you love to bake cakes but struggle to cut clean slices, you’ll love this hack. It’s super easy and pieces come out perfect every time. Now, when you have special guests for dinner, you won’t feel embarrassed when serving a homemade dessert.

Big cakes

Sometimes, an occasion calls for a cake that’s larger than most. For instance, this is something you might serve at a birthday party. But due to its size, you’d only be able to cut huge pieces, way too much for just one person to eat.

But there’s more good news

Due to this unique cutting method, you’ll end up with two cakes, so to speak. You’ll have one on the outside that you serve and another on the inside that you can either cut or save. The bottom line, nothing goes to waste.

Okay, are you ready?

For this, you’ll start out using a glass bowl. This woman suggests using one that’s one-half smaller than the cake. At most, the bowl shouldn’t be any larger than three-quarters the size of the cake.

Preparing to cut

While holding the bowl upside down in your hands, find the center of the cake. Gently press the rim of the bowl in the icing but only enough so it makes an indentation. Set the bowl aside. You’ll then see a perfect circle on the top of the cake.

Now you’ll need a knife

Use a knife to follow the indentation made by the bowl. Cut all the way around. Ultimately, you’ll end up with a second cake made from the center.

Cutting beautiful slices

Next, you’ll cut slices only from the outer ring of the cake. That way, the pieces are the right size for your guests to enjoy and they’re all even. Not only that but lifting the slices onto a plate is much easier. Again, this is especially true when dealing with an oversized cake.

Ideal for kids

Remember, you can serve both cakes or save the center one for later. But another option is to serve the adults pieces from the outer ring since these are larger and cut slices from the center portion for children as this is a smaller cake. Regardless, this is a hack that all bakers should know about.
