Something really cool happened at the Excel Center in London recently. There was a giant trade show going on at the center when all of a sudden a giant lion came casually strolling into the building. Luckily, it wasn’t a real lion though. It bounced its way across the floor of the lobby supported by multiple people hiding underneath the costume.

Immediately, everyone started looking around and wondering what was going on.

Could this be some sort of promotional animal for one of the businesses at the trade show? Nope. It was actually the start of an epic five-minute flash mob.

Shortly after, a buzzer sounded and that’s when the real fun began.

One by one people from the crowd started dancing their way into the circle that had formed around the lion. The song “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen started blasting over the speakers in the center. As for the lion, it began awkwardly dancing and swaying to the beat as well. Soon though, it had to move out of the way.

The performance initiated with two women swinging each other round and round, but within seconds, another ten or so people added themselves into the mix.

The tempo picked up too.

They switched the track playing in the background to “You Make Me Want To Shout” by Janis Joplin and the energy of the flash mob skyrocketed. The dancing got a lot crazier after that.

Over the next several minutes, the group switched songs and dance styles several more times as they cycled through tracks by Taylor Swift, LMFAO, and finally, Black Eyed Peas.

It looked like everyone in the crowd was really enjoying it.

Several hundred people gathered around them to watch, some spread out around the edges of the dance floor and others looking down from a balcony up above.

The performance brought huge smiles to so many people’s faces. Many even decided to pull out their phones and record the event so they could share it with their friends and family later.

The whole time, the lion stayed on the sidelines swaying back and forth.

The performance ended with all of the dancers posing in a line on the ground while another dozen people showed up behind them holding up big letters that collectively read “Pragmatic Play”.

It turns out, it was partially a promotion after all, at least in the sense that the group was sponsored.

Successful flash mobs aren’t easy to pull off.

At the end of the day, they take a lot of coordination, practice, and of course, money… especially the bigger ones. It’s understandable the performers would take on a sponsor to help pay for important things like dance studio practice space and props.

With a little investigation, we discovered that the dance crew’s name is actually Club Mob. Apparently, they are a professional flash mob group, offering “unexpected entertainment and bespoke surprises”.

For them, flash mobbing is not only an art form but also a business. They can be hired out for parties and events. For example, they could pose as waiters at your next get together and surprise everyone by dropping their trays and starting to dance.

It’s definitely an interesting concept, and we have to say, we thoroughly enjoyed their trade show performance. It will be very exciting to see what surprise flash mobs the group initiates next.
