When we meet people for the first time, we tend to feel shy and the reaction is normal. After all, we don’t know how to react to them or how they think about us. We don’t even know if they like us.

Max the Moluccan cockatoo had a different reaction when he met a new friend in a pet store.

Instead of being shy and timid, he went all out in greeting Q, a younger female Moluccan cockatoo. Although at first, he was quite unsure what to do with the other bird, he warmed up quickly to her and started showing off.

Q responded with the same level of excitement.

That caused Max to go even louder. The two started making noises, flapping their wings, and bobbing their heads. It’s like they delivered an impromptu song and dance number.

Of course, with such performance, everyone in the pet store wasn’t able to stop themselves from recording the duo. And much to their delight, the two cockatoos continued their funny exchange for several minutes.

Max is quite a jolly bird.

He considers himself a star, particularly because of the treatment he’s receiving. He often gets delicious snacks and he’s mostly out to go on adventures.

It’s a relief that Max is able to see life in a better light.

You see, prior to living with his owner, he used to live in a basement. He was in a really bad environment which caused him to develop several behavioral problems. He used to bit and scream so much that it was hard to safely hold him.

Moluccans love attention.

These birds would love to be by your side 24 hours a day. They crave attention and may show a bit of obsessive behavior. If you are able to give them the attention they need, you’ll surely have a happy bird, like Max.

Moluccans have a really striking appearance. They have salmon-pink feathers on their head crest which is why they are also called salmon-crested cockatoos.

The amusing thing about these birds is that they’ll show off their head crest whenever they are thrilled, excited, afraid or angry. They can also out-yell other types of bird and they like to scream even for nothing.

Because of that, Moluccans aren’t for everyone.

You’ll need to have a special household if you want to happily and peacefully own one. You’ll need really understanding neighbors, too.

Since they are clingy, you need to be patient and understanding whenever you are with them. They will try hard to be next to you so if you don’t have a lot of time to stay at home or simply be with them, you might end up having problems.

Similar to most cockatoos, Moluccans don’t like being neglected. If you fail to give them the attention they need, they’re likely to do self-mutilate.

They don’t like getting confined either. This is why most Moluccans spend a lot of time out of their cages.
