We’ve all heard horror stories about The Transportation Security Authority (TSA) and the nightmare situations that have occurred while trying to get through airport security, from forcing an 8-year-old to remove his shirt to a cancer survivor who ended up covered in urine.

But the TSA claims its objective is to keep us safe.

The TSA was formed under a 2001 law to detect terrorists and prevent them from causing harm after the September 11th attacks. However, some outlets like the American Civil Liberties Unions (ACLU) say that our being hassled at the airport is all for naught since the TSA fails at their mission.

“Despite decades of research effort to maximize the accuracy of deception judgments, detection rates rarely budge,” according to a study offered by the TSA, the Los Angeles Times reports.

A recent story suggests that the TSA has failed yet again, but this time they’re actually apologizing.

New York Giants defensive lineman A.J. Francis says the TSA is responsible for desecrating his mother’s remains at Los Angeles International Airport.

In an angry Tweet, Francis claimed that TSA agents insisted on opening a container holding his mother’s ashes.

This reportedly is against their policy, according to the TSA.

In addition, the urn wasn’t properly close which caused the remains to spill out into Francis’ suitcase.

“Hey you pieces of sh*t at TSA next time you a**holes feel the need to go thru my mother’s ashes for no reason, make sure you close it back so her remains aren’t spilled on all my clothes… the least you pieces of garbage can do is your f**king job,” he wrote.

Francis’ mother, Carrie Leanne Francis, died on June 26 at the age of 46-years-old, according to ABC News.

The TSA responded to Francis’ Tweet with an apology.

“We’re very sorry to hear about this. We understand the emotional stress travelers are under when transporting the remains of a loved one. Our policies and procedures focus on ensuring that all passengers are treated with dignity, respect and courtesy,” they Tweeted.

They initially took responsibility for the situation saying the urn should have never been opened.

“Our officers are trained to handle your carry-on and checked property with care. Out of respect for the deceased, under no circumstances should the container be opened. Please accept our apologies and our condolences,” a Tweet explained.

The TSA later placed blame on Francis when they spoke to CBS News saying that the package looked shady which it why it was open.

They also claimed that it was carefully repackaged and placed back into his bag.

“A TSA officer discovered the unidentified object was an opened, unmarked ceramic container, wrapped in aluminum foil inside a small bag. Upon further inspection of the checked bag, the container was loosely packaged, unmarked and the contents unknown to the TSA officer,” TSA spokesperson Michelle Negron told the news outlet.

Francis did not accept the TSA’s apology, to say the least, and had a few choice words for the organization.

“Under all circumstances f*uck yourself,” he Tweeted.

Francis did say that he didn’t want anyone fired for the incident but did want the TSA to be “cognizant of its own internal idiocy.”
