Not everyone out there can be trusted these days. You never know if someone will be kind or not. Luckily, a dad was willing to let his young daughter make a new friend.

This ended up being a very sweet interaction!

Kevin Armentrout, a writer and speaker, was in an airport terminal in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was there with his family. One of those family members was his daughter, Carter Jean. She is interested in everything, like many toddlers.

An Inquisitive Mind

She was walking around the terminal and saying hi to the others who were waiting for their flights. As she toddled around, plenty of people thought she was adorable.

According to her father, she was just “her usual inquisitive self.” She wanted to explore and was probably bored of waiting.

Finally, she chose the right person to talk to. She walked over to Joseph Pat Wright.

He had been in Las Vegas, Nevada for a work conference. Now, he was waiting to get on a plane to head to Oklahoma where he lives.

What happened next is so sweet and somewhat surprising!

A Friendship is Formed

Joseph decided to take some time and talk with the outgoing little girl. He didn’t seem bothered at all.

He pulled out his tablet and showed her a cartoon. He even gave her a chance to draw with the device.

Carter Jean was totally comfortable with Joseph and probably thought that he was her new best friend. The two sat together for nearly an hour.

How special is it that Joseph took the time to hang out with Carter Jean? He could have just said hello back to her or completely ignored her.

Instead, he gave up 45 minutes of his time to talk to her and show her his tablet. He could have been relaxing, working, or doing anything else while waiting for his flight.

After this interaction occurred, Kevin posted on Facebook. He wanted to show the world how kindness goes a long way.

The Internet Responds

In his post, Kevin said,

“In a country that is continuously fed that it’s so deeply divided by beliefs, I want her life to be filled with moments like this… not liberal or conservative, republican or democrat, socialist or capitalist, just HUMAN.”

He then went on to thank Joseph specifically, saying:

“Joseph in Oklahoma, if this should happen to find you. Thank you for showing my daughter what kindness and compassion looks like. Continue to shine your light in the world.”

Not long after it was posted, Kevin’s story went viral. In the comments, people shared about their own interactions like it. Some of Joseph’s colleagues and relatives even began to share how Joseph has always been kind and open.

Although Carter Jean may not remember this specific interaction years down the road, the message of kindness has been shown to her.

Not everyone in the world is ready to spread kindness as Joseph did. His actions will hopefully inspire more people to take a little time out of their lives to reach out to others.

From what Kevin has shared, it sounds like he just hopes to raise a kind and compassionate daughter. With a start like this, she will definitely grow up to be a great young lady!
