There are some moments so special, touching, and uplifting that not only make one person overcome with emotions but groups of people as well.
That is exactly what Dryden Davis of Sullivan High School, Illinois experienced for his Homecoming event – a teenager with Down Syndrome.
Dryden had been crowned the “Homecoming King” at his high school’s reunion function. The announcement brought everyone in the arena not only on their feet in applause but in tears as well.
“We could not be more proud of our boy & this wonderful community we live in! He brought the house down & there wasn’t a dry eye around,” writes Cassie Davis, mom of Dryden Davis on her Facebook status.
Dryden Davis was born with down syndrome.
This reason alone provides much value and appreciation of his becoming the homecoming king of his high school reunion.
Of course, for hus parents Mr. & Mrs. Davis, this is a moment in their sons’ life which they will always cherish and remember.
To raise a child with a disability and to see him supported by so many in his community is something that is respected and appreciated by everyone.
The teen Dryden Davis himself is very happy and proud of his moment of acceptance and appreciation.
“Drydie had the night of his life tonight! On the way home, he was singing “I’m so happy I am king, I got a crown” We might have to keep his ego in check after tonight!”
To give his thanks to the audience and the homecoming judges of his high school, Dryden treated the all-standing crowd and judges with some cute dance moves after being crowned.
To confess my own feelings, when Dryden Davis’s name was pronounced as the winner of the 2020 Homecoming King, I was overcome with emotion upon seeing his joy.
The young Dryden slowly made his way towards the judges to be crowned king!
And when he pulled those cute dance moves of his, it was a spectacle to be seen and behold with great delight and pleasure.
It wasn’t long before the video of his crowning went viral when it was uploaded on social media, garnering over 300K likes alone on Instagram.
Here is the update from Cassie Davis’s Facebook post on Dryden’s homecoming crowning ceremony:
These kinds of events and heartwarming occasions confirm one thing – there is still hope and acceptance for those who are different.
So, let us all take a vow today that no matter how different and uncommon a human being we come across in the future, we will always treat them with dignity, respect, and humanity which everyone deserves unconditionally.
