Weddings are supposed to be a happy time for couples. Actually, one of the happiest times of their life. But that was a little tough for Max Singer and his bride Kenya Smith.

That’s because Max’s mom, Janey Singer, had died of lung cancer at age 62, two months before their wedding date.

Before Janey’s death, Max and Kenya decided to have a quiet wedding before their big ceremony at the hospice care center where Janey would live out her final days. They skipped all of the major traditions at this time, except for one.

They didn’t exchange rings, wear fancy clothes, or walk down an aisle. But Max did share a dance with his mother.

They danced to Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space,” which is one of Max’s favorite songs.

The bride’s father and stepmother got to watch their marriage via FaceTime from Iowa City. Janey died a few days later.

“Her selflessness to take a day where it’s all about you, and drop it all to get married in a room so my mom could be there, was incredible, and really showed their true partnership together, ” Max’s sister, Ali Singer, said of sister-in-law.

At first, the couple wasn’t sure if they should go forward with their planned wedding ceremony.

However, they ultimately decided to wed on June 4, 2016 at Brant Beach Yacht Club on Long Beach Island, NY. Little did they know they would have a surprise guest at their wedding. A family friend ended up sending Max’s graduate school essay, unbeknownst to him, to Swift. The essay was broken up into themes based on songs from Swift’s 1989 album.

Swift ended up crashing their wedding as a last minute guest, though technically she was invited.

“I apologize for wedding crashing,” Swift said to the couple and their 100 or so guests.

She then sat at a piano and performed “Blank Space. She also brought with her a handmade picture for the couple and posed for pictures with them. Wedding guests were shocked to say the absolute least.

You could hear people gasping and saying, “Oh my god!” as she walked in.

Max’s reaction was by far the best.

He totally fangirled out as he danced to the song with his bride.

Oh, and of course people snapped photos and posted about it on social media.

“Taylor Swift arrived and performed live and unannounced for Max and Kenya’s wedding reception on Saturday, with DJ Mike in support. What an amazing and great occurrence to happen to these two great people on their special day! We wish so much love and success to our wedding couple, and give thanks to Taylor and her brilliant performance for making our bride and groom’s day absolutely unforgettable,” said Mike Klebacher on Facebook.
