We all love going to movie theaters. It turns the act of watching a story on screen into an exciting celebration. It gets us out of the house, we get to eat specific theater snacks, and we get to watch the movie as soon as it comes out with our best friends.

It makes it more of a “thing” and is a lot more exciting than watching a movie at home. The only thing we can do without when we go to the movie theater is those uncomfortable theater seats.

They can sometimes contort your body in unnatural ways that aren’t conducive to watching a movie on a huge screen. You easily end up with a sore neck and back from sitting in one of these things. And lets not forget the lack of leg room which can leave your legs cramped.

Sometimes you just want to relax and be fully reclined while watching a movie. That’s why a movie theater in Switzerland came up with a genius idea. Cinema Pathé now offers seating in its “VIP bedroom.”

Yup, you heard that right… bedroom. You can buy tickets to lay in double beds in a cozy nook in their theater. It’s just like watching a movie from your bedroom at home.

The VIP bedroom has 11 double beds, each with an adjustable headrest, soft sheets, two pillows, and illuminated bedside tables for your free drinks and popcorn. These free snacks get delivered to your bed so you don’t have to wait on line for them.

And get this… you even get a pair of slippers for ultimate comfort! If you’re not too keen on sitting on theater sheets, the theater guarantees that they’ll be clean.

The sheets are to be replaced before every film.

“The hygiene aspect is very important to us. With everything taken care of, you might feel so relaxed that you would struggle to stay awake throughout the whole film!”CEO of Pathé Switzerland Venanzio Di Bacco told My Modern Met.

Each ticket will cost you about 49 francs which is about $48.65. And that’s not the only VIP experience the Pathé theater offers. They have a 350-capacity IMAX theater with single and double bed sofas.

They also have a kids’ cinema that includes bean bags, a ball pit, and a slide instead of stairs.

The VIP bedroom is a response to a decline in theater attendance. Movie theater attendance hit an all-time 25 year low in 2017 in the U.S. and Canada, according to The Verge. Even though ticket prices are higher, revenue was lower.

The figures are much better when you look at theater attendance globally. The global box office actually hit a revenue record of $40 billion a year in 2017, which was a 3 percent increase worldwide.

“Going to the movies is truly a worldwide phenomenon,” says comScore’s Paul Dergarabedian, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “The big screen experience was bolstered by a unique and compelling slate of titles in 2017 that sparked an exceptional level of enthusiasm by patrons who flocked to movie theaters around the globe.”

Declines are attributed to more people streaming movies at home. So, Pathé thought they’d give people a more home-like experience. Some people were concerned that people would be encouraged to engage in some hanky panky in the theater with the new beds.

Di Bacco doesn’t foresee this as being a problem.

“The offer is unique in Switzerland. But we tested the concept abroad and had no problems so far.”
