The man and woman who made this cool RV had no DIY experience but it looks incredible anyway. If they can do this, then anyone can!
The craze for making tiny homes hasn’t just taken Americans by storm.
People across the world are now living in tiny spaces due to the freedom that it gives them.
For example, this British couple has made a small white van into a luxurious living space for their travels across the world.
“We bought it last year for about £3,500 from eBay.” – Adam Croft
From the outside, it doesn’t look like much. Anyone passing it on the street would think that it belonged to a moving company, or something.
But when the back door is pulled up, people get a glimpse of the incredible space inside. Just within this door is a small porch with some basic amenities, including coat hooks, a chair, storage space and a water tank.
Inside, is a lovingly crafted but cramped paradise.
A small kitchen has four stove burners and more counter space than the average New York City apartment.
It also features a nicely sized sink, cupboards, a fridge and several racks.
Opposite this is a small nook with additional storage spaces and hooks. And, impressively, there’s a wood burner that can easily keep the small space warm on the coldest of winter nights.
Behind the kitchen is a snug sofa that can just about fit two people and a range of cushions.
“We spent a year converting it into a home. We’ve done it all ourselves. We’ve fully insulated it.” – Adam Croft
In the back is a tiny bathroom, which has a nozzle for a shower and a composting toilet.
Lastly, behind the bathroom and on top of some more storage space, is the bed.
“This probably cost us about, in total, about £10,000. I think we could have done things a lot cheaper, but it’s all been a learning curve. It was the first time Nikki had picked up a drill, and I haven’t done much DIY work before.” -Adam Croft
The final result is undeniably impressive.
Despite being in such a tight space, the area feels homely and comfortable. It’s surely going to be perfect for the couple’s travels.
But where can they take it? After all, they live in England.
Luckily for them, it’s incredibly easy for British vehicles to get to mainland Europe. That’s because there are a range of ferry services that allow vehicles to board and cross over to France, Spain, Germany and other bordering countries.
Adam Croft and Nikki Pepperell were motivated to take on the project after they found that renting in the UK was increasingly expensive. They discovered the car online and realized that they had an opportunity to save money in the long run and embark on amazing adventures.
The couple plans to drive the van to France, meet up with some friends there and then travel through to Portugal, where they hope to find work.
But they also have the opportunity to go east and south, venturing to Africa and Asia if they so wanted.
Who knows of all the incredible places that this van-turned-home will take them?
The only downside is that Brexit could negatively affect them.
However, as long as they can claim to be resident in an EU country when Britain leaves the European Union, they should have the freedom to live and work in all of the EU countries.
