Mom’s Request Of Dog To “Bark Softly” Is Hilarious

October 2nd, 2020

Barking is one of the ways that dogs communicate. And since we love our dogs with all our hearts, of course we want to hear what they have to say.

You gotta admit though, there are times when it would be nice if they stopped barking on command. Or in the least, turned their volume down a bit! It could be useful during those late-night bark fests that wake the neighborhood, or when you’re at the best part of a movie.

One brilliant dog owner actually taught her dog a barking trick. Not only does it seem really useful, but it’s pretty hilarious to watch too!

The dog in the video is a Shiba Inu named Mame, and he lives with his owner in Japan. Although there isn’t much background on the pair – one thing’s for sure, he’s pretty darn cute.

Most people teach their dogs commands and tricks. But certain breeds are tougher to train, like the Shiba Inu.

According to the Canna-Pet website, stubbornness is a personality trait of the Shiba Inu, and they’re known for being “one of the most difficult breeds to train.”

Mame’s owner must have worked really hard to teach her dog the following barking trick. Once you see it, you’ll probably agree it would have been totally worth it!

The video seems to come from a Japanese television program, and the hosts are watching the funny footage.

It starts out with Mame’s owner saying his name. In response, the dog barks loudly at Mom. She asks him, “Is this how you bark?” Apparently so, because Mame barks loudly again.

Okay, okay, nothing impressive yet…

The owner asks him a different question.

She says to the dog, “You can bark little softer, right?” Mame barks again and this time it is a little softer. The big smile on the host’s face shows he’s impressed.

But can Mame turn the volume down even more?

The woman asks, “Can you bark more more softer?” Why yes, Mom, I can! Mame barks even softer and it’s so cute, it has another one of the hosts rolling with laughter.

This trick isn’t over yet.

So, how low can Mame go? His mom says, “Softer softer.” Mame then delivers a very soft, comical “ruff!” It’s almost like he’s a kid whispering in the library!

One commenter wrote on YouTube:

“Wow! I wonder how they were able to train the doggie to do this sort of thing? That’s really really impressive!”

I’m definitely wondering the same thing too. Seriously, what an awesome trick for when little Fido is barking at midnight. Or frankly, it would be a fun way to impress everyone at the dog park!

The owner tells Mame how cute he is. His “quiet” response has the television hosts cracking up even more.

While there are tons of entertaining dog trick videos around the internet, this one has gathered more than 11 million views since 2011! Viewers have left comments like:

“OMG, this NEVER gets old!!!!! Too cute for words <3”

“2020, watched this a few times, laugh every time.”

It’s an applause-worthy trick that earns Mame a treat at the end. Who knows, it may inspire you to try it with your pooch too!
