Daddy-daughter dances are wildly popular across the country. They are special events where daddies dress up in a tie and dress shirt and escort their darling daughters, who are all dolled up in a fancy dress and shiny shoes, to a dance where they twirl and spin the night away under a sea of sparkling lights.
Oftentimes daddies treat their daughters to a wrist corsage and the little girls have their nails painted, their hair done up and a touch of lip gloss swirled across their mouths.
One dad decided to participate in a different type of a daddy-daughter dance. The end result is absolutely adorable!
Bin Robinson’s daughter dances with Zenith Dance Rhythms in Maryland. The single dad decided to take a daddy-daughter dance class with his five-year-old baby girl Sa’Miyah.
For the recital, they performed a heartwarming duet that had the entire crowd ooohing and aaahing. In fact, the video of this modern day Fred and Ginger has gone viral with millions and millions of views.
They danced to “Why I Love You” by MAJOR at Frederick Douglas High School in Upper Marlboro, Md. He explained to the hosts of Right This Minute that as a single dad, he decided to take this special dance class with his daughter as a way for them to bond.
“It’s a way for me to spend time with her doing something she like sot do. It builds us together.”
Sa’Miyah wore a beautiful flowing yellow dance dress and flits about the stage. They perform somersaults and floorwork, then she executes a couple of cartwheels and Bin does the same, marveling the audience. Their “Dirty Dancing” lift elicited audible gasps.
He twirls her around, flips her up over his shoulder then lifts his little girl up in the air. She does the splits and he twirls her around. After he sets her back down, Bin spins out and leaps hilariously. She shakes her finger at him as if to say, “Nope that’s not how you do it.” Then she shows him the right way.
They come back together and hug, then she wraps herself around his leg and he drags her off the stage while everyone claps and cheers. They pause, then they return to the center for a final bow and the crowd goes wild.
They skip off and she blows a kiss as they disappear behind the black curtain.
Bin had no idea that the video had gone viral until someone texted him. The show’s hosts commented on how much fun he was to watch.
“I was just the prop. I was just there. Dads, if you love your daughter, just go do it.”
Sa’Miyah informed the show’s hosts that she happens to be the better dancer, which drew laughter from everyone.
“I love the part where he lifted me up.”
Dad shared that he fully intends to continue dancing with his prima ballerina as long as he can.
“I’ll keep working out.”
