Somewhere, located on the majestic banks of Washington’s Key Peninsula, there is a unique and humble home that fits right into its surroundings.
Although you might not realize it at first glance, it is made out of a transformed school bus that would take anyone who looked at it by surprise.
Although it is modest in size, it has more than enough charm to make up for how tiny it is. Anyone may think that making a home in an old school bus would be bizarre, but this bus has enough pure magic inside of it to enthrall anyone who gets the chance to step through the front door and into a small version of home and heaven.
Meet the Tiny Home Owners
The school bus home belongs to Mira and Jeremy Thompson as well as their 2-year-old daughter. Their converted tiny home sits next to a vacation home, so they are able to do their laundry, use the internet and have space for guests as well.
Their love for family, traveling and appreciating the small things (literally!) was their motivation for creating their small, unique abode that they call the gypsy bus, although we would argue that they have made it into much more than just a bus.
Traveling is important to the Thompsons, as they loved the freedom they felt while they were off on the road and lost in wanderlust. Although it was nice to travel, they needed a home base close to their families for when they are not discovering the world.
The Gypsy Bus Home
Since Jeremy has over nine years of auto body and construction experience, he decided to start creating the conversion of their old school bus into a beautiful tiny home. It took him over two years to complete, but today, he can open his tiny home door and see a gorgeous lake and marina, filled with boats.
When guests enter the home, the first thing they usually notice is the gorgeous circular window that gives light and provides a beautiful view of the nature surrounding them.
Because their daughter is only two-years-old, she doesn’t exactly need a room of her own. Instead, the family all shares this California king-sized bed, nestled perfectly between the two walls at the back of the school bus. The family says it’s great for co-sleeping and that they have plenty of room.
Above the bed is a gorgeous loft. The family uses this space for reading and relaxing after a long day. The window provides them with the light of the sun during the day and the moon at night. It’s a perfect way in bring light into the home while being close to nature.
Although the kitchen is small and quaint, it is functional and a place to make and share family meals. It also boasts retro vibes with the old-fashioned refrigerator that looks like it time-warped from the 70’s.
The bus stays in place most of the time, but it can be moved if the Thompsons feel like it. And although it may be small, they say they are happy with it, as they are living the best life possible away from the hustle and bustle of neighbors. They intend to stay for as long as their gypsy souls allow them.
