One’s birthday is always a special occasion. A time to celebrate with one’s friends and family, throw a birthday party, and share those special moments with everyone else.
Animals also love to celebrate birthdays! There are special animals that go a step further and showcase special talents on their birthday!
Bandhu is a rhino who wanted to do something special on his birthday
Rhinos are truly fascinating animals! They’re famous for their size and strength but are gentle giants if left alone and pretty intelligent too! Their horn is actually made of the same stuff as our fingernails! It’s one thing we have in common with these magnificent beasts, but there’s more!
What would you think if we told you playing the piano is one of Bandhu’s unexpected talents?
Bandhu is not like any other rhino. He has a very unusual skill you never would’ve even guessed! He lives in Denver Zoo and is very popular with the visitors but no one could’ve thought Bandu would one day become an internet celebrity!
Bandhu’s love of music prompted him to write a song all by himself!
The rhino’s special talent soon attracted the attention of the zoo employees. Fascinated by his amazing musical talent, they took to social media to share his creativity with the world!
“Bandhu wanted to treat you all to a special song he wrote all by himself,” zoo officials wrote in a Facebook post. “Using his prehensile lip to compose a tune is just one of the many ways we can use enrichment to mentally and physically stimulate the birthday boy.”
It’s time to rock ‘n roll!
On his special day, Bandhu was eager to show everyone just how talented he is and soon dazzled the online audience by playing the keyboard like a true maestro!
“Happy Birthday, Bandhu!” Denver Zoo posted on Instagram. “Our resident male greater one-horned rhino turns 12 today! It might be his birthday, but Bandhu wanted to treat you all to a special song he wrote all by himself. Using his prehensile lip to compose a tune is just one of the many ways we can use enrichment to mentally and physically stimulate the birthday boy.”
He became a star overnight and clearly enjoys his well-earned fame
Everyone was captivated by his performance.
“OMGosh, this is so much fun, what a fantastically creative enrichment tool! Happy Birthday Bandhu, thanks for the concert!” Pamela commented on Facebook.
Some rhino species are critically endangered
There are three rhino species today that are endangered. These include black, Javan, and Sumatran and can only be found in Indonesia. The most common rhino species can be found in Africa and Asia but their numbers have been steadily decreasing over the last couple of decades.
White rhinos are the second-largest land mammal in the world after elephants. They can be found mainly in Africa and have a population of about 18,000.
There’s still much we can learn about rhinos, hence it’s important to protect them and prevent their habitats from being destroyed.
We wish Bandhu a long and happy life and hope he will surprise us again with another masterpiece!
