The moment was very intense.

It always makes us so sad when we see a homeless dog running loose on the streets.

The pups spend their lives in fear, constantly watching their backs during the day, and digging through trash at night in search of their next meal. If one thing is for sure, it’s that it’s a rough life for animals in the city without a human to take care of them.

Luckily, there are some amazing people out there making it their mission to help.

Two of those individuals are Eldad and Loretta from the Hope For Paws rescue organization. They posted a beautiful video on YouTube that shows the incredible lengths they sometimes have to go to rescue a pup. It’s a video that while hard to watch, also has a very happy ending.

Meet Opal — a scared and lonely stray dog they found living in the street with no one to take care of her.

When Eldad and Loretta first saw little Opal running around the city, they knew they had to do something. Unfortunately, rescuing a pup isn’t always easy. Whenever they would try and get close to her, Opal would quickly run away.

They decided the best way to catch her was by using a trap.

They set out a big cage trap along the road and filled it with treats to attract the hungry dog.

Hidden camera footage shows Opal cautiously and nervously entering the cage, constantly spinning around to make sure no one is behind her. Slowly, she inches forward, one by one eating the treats, but when she finally triggers the trap’s mechanism, she instantly turns and bolts out of the cage.

The pup managed to escape before the door could fully close.

Eventually, the rescuers realized they were just going to have to grab Opal.

Even though it is quite risky to grab a wild dog, they felt like they had no other option. They noticed that if they laid out treats, Opal was willing to come close to Eldad and they might have a shot at catching her.

The video shows the pup walking up to eat the treats and all of a sudden Eldad lunges for her.

He grabs her and the nervous dog totally freaks out. It’s hard to watch, but it was something that needed to be done. Opal must have been so scared. However, as Eldad notes in the video, “a few seconds of stress in exchange for a lifetime of happiness — I had to do it”.

Eldad suffered a painful bite in the process but ultimately, they were able to get Opal into their car. They immediately took her to the organization’s headquarters.

Once Opal knew she was safe, she calmed down quite a bit.

She even let Loretta pet her and give her a bath.

The video then flashes to a clip that was taken a few weeks later. Opal is a completely different dog.

While you can tell she is still a little nervous trying to adjust to her new life, she already looks much much happier.

It’s amazing how quickly an animal’s demeanor changes when you show them love.

For the first time in her life, Opal finally had people in her life who cared about her. It’s a great ending to the story and we’re so glad things worked out.

Thank you Hope For Paws and volunteers Eldad and Loretta for your hard work out there saving the lives of street pups and making a difference.
