When we were first introduced to this magnificent cat, he was a chimera kitten no bigger than the palm of your hand and could fit in a slipper with ease. Much like other “two-faced” cats before him like Venus and Quimera, Narnia quickly took the internet by storm with his exotic looks thanks to a photoshoot that started his internet stardom.
How did he get his exotic looks?
The British Shorthair, like Venus and Quimera before him, is referred to as a chimera cat. Although a definitive explanation of this cat’s striking looks is unknown, the cells of a true chimera cat contain two types of DNA. This is because of chimerism (based on the Greek mythical creature, the Chimera was a fusion of several different other animals) is caused when two embryos, most commonly of fraternal twins, fuse together within one animal.
Just like the mystery surrounding Venus’s genetic code, Leslie Lyons has explained to National Geographic that there is a way to reveal the true nature behind Narnia’s stunning looks. She should know, she is a professor that studies the genetics of domestic cats after all. They key would be taking a closer look at the cat’s DNA, twice:
“We can do a DNA fingerprint—just like on CSI—and the DNA from one side of the body should be different than the other.”
Social media fame
Narnia was born on the 28th of March, 2017, and his breeder Stephanie Jimenez instantly fell in love with him, calling him “a real small miracle.” Almost two years his appearance, his social media is still going strong with his Instagram profile gathering almost 70 thousand followers. That’s pretty spectacular for a two-year-old! But, it looks like he hasn’t let the Instagram fame go to his head. He still enjoys regular cat stuff like:
Being grumpy in bad weather. Very, very grumpy. His human notes that he is not fond of bad weather, at all.
Wearing a fabulous tie. He’s actually really understanding of humans and their bizarre behaviors, including the need to put a tie on a cat.
Sinking his claws in to stuffed things. Well, he is still a cat.
Weird cat poses on hind legs. Just – need – to – stretch – a – little – further.
And fatherhood!
On June 23rd of this year, Narnia’s Instagram profile saw the introduction of his two daughters, Orfée and Ozanna. They might not share their dad’s uniquely colorful coat, they do share his big stunning blue eyes and that tuff of white fur on their neck, or as his breeder refers to as “the jewel.” We think they’re best described as completely adorable.
The ups and downs of fatherhood
Just like every young parent, Narnia has taken to the role of a father in his own way.
As the kittens grow older they resemble their dad more and more, especially in those piercing blue eyes.
And just like any young parent, Narnia has got to get used to sharing his personal space with two mischievous kittens.
We can see the ups and downs of parenthood.
But in the end, just look at that proud father’s face. He is clearly happy in his new role as a dad. At least, we think that’s happiness…
