Animal rescue groups all over the world encourage people to do two things with animals, spay/neuter, and adopt. In the US, 7.6 million abandoned and stray animals enter shelters every year. There are a lot of animal shelters opening regularly all over the world but it still can’t house all the strays. And this list includes animals who only have a few months to live or diagnosed with health conditions that require more care.

For Georgina Price and her fiance Christopher Lardner, adopting their first cat was one of the best decisions they ever made.

Their 16-year-old cat, Herbie, was already sick when they adopted him and he sadly passed away a few months after he arrived at Georgina and Christopher’s home. The couple was heartbroken but hopeful because now, they have room again for more cats to live forever in their home.

“We kept thinking about those animals in the shelter who only have a few months to live,” Georgina said. “And they would spend the rest of their life in that shelter.”

Georgina and Christopher did not want that for them so they decided to look for cats to adopt who would have a hard time finding their forever home.

While searching the RSPCA website, they found the profile of a bonded pair

Two cats who took it upon themselves to call each other family. Toby, a 6-year-old white cat, and Quinton, a 7-year-old black and white cat, were paired together in the profile and must be adopted together. Georgina and Christopher decided, the more cats they could rescue, the better.

When they visited RSPCA to visit the two cats, they found Toby and Quinton huddled together in a special unit, afraid. That’s when they found out the circumstances that brought these two cats to the shelter. Quinton had no teeth left. They were all removed because of an abscess in his mouth.

Toby, however, was a special case. When they saw him on the initial photo on the website, he had loose, sagging skin.

It turns out Toby has Ehler-Danlos Syndrome, which explained the loose, sagging skin on his face and stomach.

According to the Universities Federation For Animal Welfare, Ehler-Danlos Syndrome is “a group of connective tissue disorders that are characterized by fragile, stretchy and loose skin, caused by a genetic defect in the production of collagen [and] results in the collagen fibers having an abnormal structure. This weakens the skin and reduces its structural properties, and makes it prone to damage.”

Despite their conditions, Georgina and Christopher were still so excited to take them home. However, when the two cats arrived, they were so scared that they lived under the bed for weeks! Eventually, with the couple’s patience and persistence, they were able to convince the two cats to come out with some yummy food and lots of love. Now, the two cats own the place and they meow a lot when they’re disturbed.

The couple was worried at first that living with his condition will make it harder for Toby to move around and jump to high places.

And because he has weaker skin, he is more prone to skin tears, especially when he needs to move or groom himself. It turns out Georgina and Christopher don’t even need to worry. Toby has already learned to live with his condition and Quinton helps him clean himself, especially on his face and head and particularly the ones with cuts.

These two may have special conditions but they’re still like any other cats. They love to bird watch, play with bouncy balls, cuddle with their human parents, and, most of all, they love to get belly rubs.

They can’t get enough of belly rubs!

When you are ready to adopt your next pet, consider what Georgina and Christopher did. Adopt an animal that nobody seems to want. Adopt an animal who only has a few months to live. Because they’re not that different from all the other animals. They simply want to live in a home where they can love and be loved.

Can’t get enough of these two cuties? Watch them again and again in this video.
