Dogs are pretty independent, surviving in the wilds or even the streets of the cities and towns where they live. Despite this ability to survive on their own, sometimes a dog can find itself in a situation beyond its control. So, what is a dog to do in this situation, well bark for one? Which is exactly what this little dog did.

Luckily, for him, some nearby workers heard his barks and decided to check out what was going on.

It all started when a group of workers near Suwalki, Poland heard some barking from a wooded area next to their worksite. Instead of ignoring it, the workers decided to see what was going on. Upon investigating, the workers found a dog trapped in some tar that someone had dumped illegally.

Initially, the workers attempted to remove the dog from the tar themselves. No matter how hard they tried, they just didn’t have the right tools for the job. When they determined that doing so was beyond their capabilities, they called in some reinforcements.

Calling in Reinforcements

The workers called a local animal shelter, Fundacja Zwierzęta Niczyje, which directly translates into Nobody’s Animal Foundation. Joanna Godlewska, a rescuer with the foundation, soon arrived on the scene. Initially she had tears in her eyes, but was determined to free the stuck dog. So, she got to work, working patiently with a pair of scissor to cut away the fur stuck in the tar.

Godlewska feels that the dog was only trying to find some warmth on a cold night and inadvertently laid down in the warm tar. He had no way of realizing how much danger he was in until it was too late. Who knows how long he laid there before someone finally responded to his barks. It must have been a while as he was said to been fading fast when he was found.

Soon, Godlewska was joined by a group of firefighters from the local fire department. Slowly, but surely, the group was able to free the dog. The dog even understood what was going on, as a glimmer of hope appeared in his eyes. To free the dog, rescuers cut away the fur stuck in the tar, and then used cooking oil to loosen him from the tar’s grip.

Finally, they were able to release him and rushed him to a nearby veterinary clinic. There he was allowed to recover from his ordeal and get cleaned up. The cleaning process itself was long as the tar was messy and had to be washed from his fur by determined and loving caregivers. Eventually, though, he was clean.

Named Farcik by the clinic staff, the dog had to undergo many more cleanings and a checkup, where he was found to be in otherwise good health. Fortunately, for the dog, was surrounded by a loving and caring staff who only wanted to see him fully recover and have a happy life.
