Family brings their puppy to shelter to help them pick out a new pet
It's a family that we'd love to be a part of!

Back in 2015, a family in Lubbock, Texas, was thinking about adding to their brood. But we’re not talking about babies! In July of that year, they had welcomed a new puppy into their lives, and now they decided that their puppy needed a furry playmate.

They already knew that adoption was the route they wanted to take, and headed to a nearby shelter to see if there were any animals in need of a new home.

But this wasn’t a choice that the adults of the family would make alone.

Raven the Tamaskan Husky puppy was the whole reason why they were thinking about getting another pet- and it was important that they got her seal of approval! So when the time came for the family to visit their local shelter, of course Raven came along too.

It wasn’t another dog the family was interested in — it was a kitten! Understandably, kittens get snapped up quickly at shelters, but the family was willing to wait.

“I had always wanted a dog and a cat to grow up together. It’s been like a life goal,” her owner Christina told the The Dodo back in 2016.

On the day the family visited the shelter, they were in luck! There was a whole litter of kittens just waiting to meet Raven. It was the perfect opportunity for her to see which one she got along with the best.

“I wanted them to be able to get along well,” Christina said. “So I wanted her to actually meet the cat and have the cat get along with the dog as well.”

Some puppies can be a little crazy — especially around new and exciting things — but Raven was curious and gentle with each kitten. The only problem was, most of them didn’t take a shine to her.

Puppies have a lot of energy, and Raven needed somebody who would match that energy — or at least put up with it. It was clear to see that only one kitten would be up for the task: Woodhouse.

Woodhouse and Raven clicked instantly, and the family’s decision to bring the tiny kitten home with them was an easy one.

The pair were often found cuddled up with each other, and as they grew up, they never left each other’s side.

“They are perfect with each other. They don’t cuddle as much as they used to when they were a puppy and kitten. But they’re still always together, always playing together.”

Despite being the smaller of the two, it’s actually Woodhouse who rules the roost.

“Woodhouse actually chases the dog around the house,” she adds. “And they like to play tag.”

More recently, the family decided that they wanted to add yet another addition to their brood — but this time it was a human baby! Penny was born in the summer of 2019 and her furry brother and sister took to her from the very beginning.

The updates on the family’s Instagram account make us simultaneously long for a baby, a puppy, and a kitten all at the same time!

Woodhouse is now a grown-up cat and has recently celebrated his 5th birthday.
