Adorable Pup Goes To Service Dog Training – 10 Million Have Seen Him Fail In Hysterical Fashion

Poor Ryker. This pup wants so much to please his people, but he simply can’t stop chasing balls, pulling refrigerators, and otherwise being a goofball.

In a video posted to Facebook by Double H Canine Training Academy in Louisville, Kentucky, Ryker’s antics are gloriously set to the tune “I Did It My Way,” performed by the legendary Frank Sinatra. And Ryker might be a legend at this point too. The video has been viewed over 10 million (!) times since it was posted last month.

The trainers shared this lighthearted message along with the video:

“Every dog has a purpose. Clearly Ryker’s purpose is not to be a service dog. Check out this video documenting his good hearted attempt. Disclaimer: This Training was attempted by trained professionals. Do not try at home.”

In order to become a service dog, pups have to abide by the Americans with Disabilities Act (otherwise known as the ADA) and be “individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability.”

According to the American Kennel Club:

“Service dogs must be handler-focused, desensitized to distractions, and highly trained to do specific tasks. They should not be distracted by the public, as they should focus solely on their owner when working. For service dogs, training can last up to two years before they are placed with a client. Service dogs typically wear a vest that identifies them as a service dog and asks the public not to pet them.”

Handler-focused, undistractable, highly trained – none of those describe Ryker. This German Shepherd has his own ideas about the best way to perform tasks.

The video starts off with Ryker and a wheelchair, presumably a device he should be taught to have great respect for. But Ryker wants to chew on its wheels. And so chew he does. In an epic display of bad behavior, he gobbles the wheel until the chair falls over, after which he continues dragging it around. Luckily, it had no occupant. This time.

Ryker’s next task involved accompanying a man with a walker. All he needed to do was heel and walk in a straight line, but alas, it was not to be. Instead, Ryker is tempted by the leash, which, to be fair, won’t stop wiggling in front of him. So he attacks it with great abandon.

But that’s only until he notices that the walker has tennis balls on the feet. That was too much temptation for the dog, who grabbed the walker and wrestled it away from the man. Luckily, the volunteer wasn’t actually relying on it to hold him up!

Oh, Ryker!

As if that wasn’t enough to prove that the dog isn’t quite up to the tasks set before him, his next job involved a wheelchair with a person sitting in it. The dog’s only job was to stay by the wheelchair and not chase a tennis ball thrown in the other direction.

Strike 3.

And if you’re wondering if Ryker pulled the leash so hard that the man came flying out of his wheelchair, the answer is yes. Yes, he did.

In any case, 3 strikes mean nothing in the land of Facebook videos, so Ryker is set up for another job. This time it appears the trainers expect him to fetch a water bottle and bring it to a location (and then possibly return it to its original location? We’re not sure because this task is also an epic fail.)

This is Ryker, proudly returning his bottle, which has been riddled with holes from his teeth. Let’s just hope no one was dehydrated and counting on some refreshment.

Ryker’s full strength is revealed when he’s told to help open a refrigerator, which he does! Unfortunately, he never stops trying to open it and manages to drag it several feet away from the wall in the process.

Next, we return to another wheelchair vs. tennis ball scenario where the man in the wheelchair is holding a rod with the ball attached to the end. Again, Ryker cannot resist the siren song of the ball and drags the man all around the room.

Things don’t go much better when someone else holds the ball. The ball is everything to Ryker. Humans can take care of themselves.

In an epic slo-mo scene, we see Ryker’s true devotion to chasing tennis balls, when he puts literally everything he’s got into chasing one across the room, just for fun. His body manages to morph into the shape of a runaway kangaroo.

Alas, the video ends with Ryker’s one other skill – being adorable. Mugging for the camera, the little guy clearly has no idea (and not a care in the world) that he has failed his test so spectacularly.

Keep scrolling to watch the hilarious video. Ryker is clearly made for stardom, not service. And boy does he know it!
