Nyles Harris is just a regular student who is trying to fund himself through his studies.
As well as attending the Northampton Community College, Nyles works five days a week at Domino’s, in the Bethlehem location on Easton Avenue.
Despite the fact that he almost never gets a moment to himself, Nyles is always positive and upbeat, and this is reflected in the work he does.
In fact, he made such an impression on one of his customers that he ended up receiving a tip of a lifetime.
Gabi DeMartino is a vlogger with over 3.1 million subscribers on YouTube. The day that Nyles delivered her pizza, she wanted to surprise him with a $2,020 tip.
Gabi filmed the moment she surprised Nyles with the tip for her YouTube channel, and his reaction is incredibly sweet.
In the video, Nyles can be seen looking at the tip in total surprise as he says, “what?!” He then hugs Gabi and says “thank you.” You can see just how happy he is from the huge smile on his face.
Nyles reflected on the special moment in an interview with 69News WFMZ-TV.
“She asked me how I was doing, and stuff. I said I’m doing good,” he recalled, referring to the moment when he rang Gabi’s doorbell.
It took a while for the enormity of the situation to sink in, and it wasn’t until afterward that Nyles began to realize that he was now $2,020 richer.
“I didn’t really believe it until I got back to my car,” he said.
With such a big sum of money now in his bank account, you could forgive Nyles for getting tempted to spend it all on designer clothes or nights out.
But instead, the student intends to put the money to good use.
Not only is he putting the money towards things that he really needs, but he’s also saved some for an extra special person in his life: his mom.
“I used it to pay off some debts, pay off some bills and I had to give some to my mom,” said Harris.
Naturally, Nyles’ mom was overjoyed to have been gifted some of her son’s tip money.
“She was hugging me and all kinds of stuff and she was like, ‘why would you do this for me?’ and I was like, ‘you know I got you’,” said Harris.
When asked if he hopes to pay the money forward one day, Nyles is quick to reply, “yeah, most definitely.” Since he’s already partly paid the money forward to his mom, we have no doubt that Nyles will stay true to his word.
This is one example of how one simple act of kindness can spread joy everywhere.
We have a feeling that Gabi’s $2,020 tip might have had something to do with the year of 2020- which as we know was rough for everyone. People on the frontline such as delivery drivers had to work even harder than normal while restaurants were closed, so if anyone is deserving of a tip, it’s them.
