It’s that time of the year again, and many parents are already starting to think about Halloween.
Experts have warned that it’ll be completely different from the Halloween we know, and, like with all change brought about this year, COVID-19 is to blame.
Some people are considering safe ways to still allow children to safely trick or treat at their home, including leaving their treats outside or scattering them across their front lawn.
Trick or treaters, too, need to be respectful of the fact that some homeowners won’t want strangers anywhere near their front door, especially if they fall into the “high risk” COVID category.
Luckily, there are plenty of crafty individuals out there who are making sure that those who want to invite children to their homes as “normal” this year are still able to.
One couple of YouTubers, Jamie and Jay, thought up an ingenious way to make sure kids can still practice social distancing when visiting their home.
They’ve made a candy slide that puts a 6-feet distance between homeowners and trick-or-treaters while offering a fun way to give kids some candy.
The great thing about this invention is that, despite looking really cool and complex, it’s actually super-easy to make – and you’ve still got plenty of time to make one for yourself before Halloween.
We’ll be sharing the full video at the bottom of this article, but the most important information is listed below.
To get started with this creation, you’ll need some PVC pipe and connectors, as well as some paint, and whatever else you fancy using for decoration.
In the video, Jamie and Jay used variously-sized pipes and connectors for their base – but you could do just as good of a job with any other type of prop-up, as long as it proved sturdy.
The only thing that’s essential here is that you have a 4-inch pipe that’s at least seven feet in length, for the social-distancing candy slide itself.
Put the pipes together, then spray paint it your color of choice (black is the most Halloween-appropriate, but your options are open!). Next, add your decorations. Jamie and Jay used stained and torn gauze, which looks a little like mummy wrapping.
The very last thing you need to do is attach the skeleton to the end of the slide for that extra spook-factor.
Of course, you can add your scary being of choice here, from ghosts to witches – it’s your slide, after all! Feel free to customize this project as much as you like to make it match your expectations.
