Dancing is not only great exercise but great fun. And if you’re capable of moving your body, then you can give it a try.

In fact, you’re ever in the Bay Area, look up Ramona Pam (aka “Liquidmotiondiva”), the founder and director of both the Bay Area Soul Line Dance Crew and the Liquid Motion Diva Soul Line dance company.

She’s getting everyone up on their feet!

Soul dancing

A video from one of her “soul dancing” classes should be enough to convince you.

What’s “soul line dancing”?

According to NPR::

“Soul line dancing – like country line dancing – is really just choreographed dance moves that you do in a group, without a partner. The Electric Slide is a classic example. The ‘soul’ part comes from the music used — like R&B, hip-hop, soul and contemporary hits.”

One gentleman in her soul dancing class went viral for all the right reasons. He is INTO it!

Dance for fitness

Terri Lipman, a professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania, has been collecting data on community soul line dancing and her research shows that it gets heart rates pumping hard enough to count as moderate exercise!

Not only that, but it also gives participants a sense of community, which can improve mental health too.

While it’s predominantly practiced in Black communities, anyone can do it. And in the Bay Area where Pam teaches, you can see that the classes are diverse in terms of ethnicity and age.

The rhythm is gonna get ya

The video is from 2012, but it will never get old.

It’s from her advanced Wednesday night dance class – and there’s an unlikely star of the show.

Her typical clientele is middle-aged Black women – but it’s the sassy white guy that steals the show. And it’s pretty clear that the ladies are letting him have the limelight.

Set to the song “So In Love,” by and Jill Scott and Anthony Hamilton, the dancers start grooving and we immediately see how this gentleman earned his place front and center.

“My man up front is representing!!!! Excellent.. one for the class!” exclaimed a commenter.

He really does have the moves!

For being “recorded on January 25, 2012, using a Flip Video camera,” the video quality isn’t all that bad – though we wouldn’t mind a remake!

Keep your eyes on the whole front row since they’re the ones who are really getting their grooves on.

These folks can really shake it! Glides, hip shakes, shimmies, and some serious attitude all make this video worth watching. It’s positively joyful!

Our gentleman friend has got the rhythm and he’s not afraid to let loose and feel the flow. And why would he be? If you’re going to go to a dance class every week, there’s no reason to hold back. There’s no holding back in soul dancing!

Viewers went wild for his performance:

“I’ve watched this video at LEAST 10 TIMES! Sir in the front…you are absolutely workin’ it! Love this dance and the song is one of my FAVS! Awesome job everyone!!”
