There is nothing the internet loves more than an unlikely animal pairing.
Disagree? Just wait until you see this NYC police horse and his new friend! A tan French bulldog decked out in a maroon shirt and colorful bowtie can’t stop spinning for a working police horse. At first, the Frenchie backs away when the horse lowers its head.
But then to the crowd’s surprise, they touch noses!
The crowd is instantly in love with the pair, and their affection is palpable.
In the background, someone says, “they are best friends now,” and the sentiment proves true—before long, as the horse and dog keep nudging noses. They can’t get enough of each other!
A little later, the Frenchie gets jealous of a little girl who pets the horse. The dog wants nothing more than to play, but the horse has a duty to do.
On top of the horse is a mounted officer with a stoic expression—maybe he wasn’t in the mood to play that day?
The video description on YouTube explains that the creator captured the footage while he was walking back to work after having lunch.
He writes:
“It was a nice contrast to the perception everyone has of the NYPD in the area due to the Occupy Wall Street camp nearby.”
In September of 2011, Zuccotti Park in New York City was filled with people in the Occupy Wall Street movement, and they stayed there until mid-November the same year.
Many camped for days, weeks and months to have their voices heard for income and wealth equality. During that time, you could not walk through Lower Manhattan’s financial district without seeing signage for the movement or a police officer on every corner. It was a tense moment for New York.
But, as protestors camped and police officers watched, two unlikely friends shared a moment that brought in over five and a half million views on YouTube!
The comments on the video are just as entertaining as people imagine dialogue for the two animals.
The most liked comment, with 1.6k likes, reads:
“Dog: “look at this giant dog omg”
Horse: “I didn’t know they made Horse these small. What a curious thing.”
With their adorable faces and round bodies, French bulldogs are one of the most common small-breed dogs.
They are playful and love people’s attention, making them great family dogs. Police horses, on the other hand, are highly trained animals. They go through rigorous training to learn how to act in the face of loud noises and big crowds.
In the video, you can see how still the horse is, only bowing his head when the Frenchie gets his attention.
At the end of the video, you can see the police officer finally crack a smile as she talks to another officer about the animals’ new friendship
Videos like this remind us all that even in the middle of tense situations, there is still happiness in the world if you look for it. And on top of that, it’s usually our animal friends—with their pure intentions and desire for friendship—that are leading the way!
