Never judge a book by its cover. Previous judges who mocked Christina Wells for her looks are probably going to eat their words after seeing the performance at her powerhouse audition for America’s Got Talent.
A false start
For Christina, her dream since she was a teenager has always been to become a performer. Her first attempt at that dream was when she was 19 years old, and it ended in rejection. She auditioned at a theme park, and they turned her down because they did not believe that the costume could fit her properly.
An amazing performance
Luckily, she didn’t let that stop her from pursuing her dream and giving the world an opportunity to hear an astounding voice as she performed Queen Latifa’s I Know Where I’ve Been from the movie Hairspray. Christina received a lengthy standing ovation for an absolutely stellar performance that left the judges amazed.
She was able to prove that she was born to sing. She had barely even started, and the audience was already roaring, awed at her vocal abilities and heart. She energetically sang her way through the musical piece to a background of spontaneous applause.
An awed Simon said,
“You blew the cork off and exploded with what you’ve been waiting to do your whole life, and we felt that energy, and we felt your soul.”
From the start to the end, she rocked the performance, and she knew she did. It would be hard not to know when the crowd showed their amazement so obviously. The judges gave away clues as well with their expressions that showed pure appreciation for Christina’s musical abilities.
An inspiration
Simon said that people like Christina are one of the main reasons he created the show. Some people have got that talent deep inside them but might not get the chance to show it off throughout their lives, because they might not have the kind of appearance that everyone is expecting:
“You know, one of the reasons why I decided to make these shows years ago (was) because I worked with so many stupid people in the music business, genuinely, who actually think someone’s going to buy a song because of someone’s weight. It is ridiculous.”
Christina is a 42-year-old single mother of two who works as a registered nurse. All thanks to America’s Got Talent, she was able to find a platform that allowed her to show the world all the talent she’s got inside her that she’s been trying to show her whole life. With her level of skill and charisma, we are sure that a music career and stardom are around the corner for her.
She said,
“This is an awesome opportunity for me to fulfill my dreams and for me to show my boys that nothing, nothing should prevent you from making your dreams come true.”
Christina Wells should be the perfect inspiration for people out there who are scared of becoming what they aspire to be, or people who hide their talents from the world just because they’re afraid of a lack of acceptance due to their appearance. If you’ve got it in you, then let it show.
