One man, living on Lake Oswego in Oregon has taken being a friend to nature to a whole other level. After rescuing a goose in the water, Mike Jivanjee has had a little difficulty getting rid of his fine feathered friend. Now, the goose, named Kyle, visits Jivanjee every day, even flying up to his boat while he is on the water.

Here is how the kind-hearted Jivanjee ended up making a lifelong friend out of the most unlikely of animals, a goose.

Jivanjee first came across Kyle as a gosling. He noticed the baby goose struggling alone on the water. Figuring she had been abandoned by her mother, he swooped in the lend a helping hand.

According to Jivanjee, “One of my friends noticed her drowning in the water, like almost desperate, alone. At any minute she would have been run over by a boat.”

At first, he was just going to rescue her, but then he thought to himself that she would probably die if she had no one to help take care of her. That is when he made a fateful decision that would change his life.

Jivanjee took the gosling literally under his wing, providing for her needs, at least until she could fend for herself. Of course he didn’t restrict her movements in any way and simply allowed her to live on the lake while he took care of her.

According to Jivanjee, “I just figured I would keep it alive long enough to be an adult and to fend for itself.”

Little did he know the lifelong relationship that would develop between the two of them? When it came time for Kyle to move on, she decided to stick around. Smitten with Jivanjee, he would often find her flying in to meet him when he walks outside. One time, she even flew in to meet him while he was in town.

Now, she comes back every day. She even flies out to land on his boat when he is out on the water. Their connection is so close that Kyle even flies alongside the boat while Jivanjee reaches out to touch her.

Jivanjee swears he has done everything to dissuade the situation, “I’ve tried to get rid of her, you know. I’ve driven her miles away and then left her in the middle of nowhere and when I come back she’s already home before me, so there’s not a lot we can do.”

After Kyle found a boyfriend and had a gosling of her own, Jivanjee stepped in to take care of him after he noticed Kyle leaving the tiny goose alone in the water. He didn’t want her own offspring to end up just like her, alone with little chance of survivability.

So, for now, Jivanjee plays their game of cat and mouse on the water in the hopes that someday the goose will move on. He sees this as a way for her to get her exercise and he seems to enjoy the encounters. Here is a video with more on this amazing friendship.
