“Desire is not what you see, but what you imagine.” – Paulo Coelho

As they say, have a vision and follow your dreams and this is exactly what this DIY enthusiast did. Michael decided to follow his dreams and began his first bus transformation at the age of 23. Pretty impressive, don’t you think?

“After spending a year living out of my van, I got the itch to start building again and decided to sell my trusty Promaster to pursue a new challenge,” said Michael in his Imgur album.

Michael, now 28, has been transforming buses into mobile homes for years. By this time, he decided to sell his old bus home and build another one.

He went on Craiglist and found a beautiful, boxy behemoth that was listed and it was his lucky day was it was well-maintained. He instantly fell in love with the 1992 Ford E-350 7.3 Diesel – regarded as one of the best engines ever produced.

According to Michael, it used to be a small-town ambulance from Tennessee it was retired and was purchased by an eccentric high-end AstroTurf company. The new owner then used it to haul rolls of fake grass and other gardening tools short time. Then, this beauty once again retired and was replaced with a vehicle more suited for transporting faux-grass.

“Despite being cluttered and carpeted in AstroTurf, I could see the potential and purchased her on the spot with funds I fortunately had left over after parting ways with my Promaster,” said Michael.

After thoroughly cleaning the ambulance, Michael started planning. He already visualized what he wanted this ambulance to look like. Being an illustrator gave Michael an edge in planning what he wanted to create.

For some, his plan to convert this ambulance into a home may seem a little odd.

“Yes, people probably died in there, but people’s lives were also saved, so I feel like it’s a wash,” he said.

It’s not unusual for him to receive questions about where can someone build one of these vehicles that he works on and for him, the answer is pretty simple.

“I simply look for spots that seem open to a dismantled vehicle or a war-zone-like construction site, then contact the owner and ask if they’d be willing to put up with my tomfoolery with a short-term lease,” explained Michael.

Building in a junkyard allowed him to have freedom and be messy without that guilt -feeling that he needs to clean up every day.

Michael then shared his work progress on his Imgur account where he explained how some of the plans changed such as the hidden bed. In total, it took roughly 4 months to finish his grand project. He said that he was only able to work on a few hours after work and on weekends.
