Ride-sharing apps like Uber, Lyft, and Via have already become solid staples in our day-to-day lives, however, it was not always like that. Before these apps, we had taxi cabs (we still have them now, but who wants to stand around waiting for one, only to be surprised with a jacked-up price?). And even with taxi cabs, there were times where we could get pretty skeptical.

But there’s something about ordering a driver on an app — a stranger you don’t know. For the most part, these companies work hard to make it as safe as possible, but there have been a small fraction of horror stories.

Despite all of this though, it is much more common to hear of wonderful ride share experiences. Many drivers go out of their way and do more than just drive. They provide water, snacks, music, and sometimes, good conversation.

Beyond all of this, sometimes they prove to just be really good, attentive, and responsible citizens.

There’s one story in particular that proves this. It’s so amazing, it even went viral.

In Worcester, Massachusetts, Ashton Mazyck is a behavioral therapist who works with children. In his down time, he also drives for Lyft to make some extra cash.

This past January, on a particularly chilly night, he was on his way home after dropping someone off when he came across something a bit unexpected.

He noticed what seemed to be a small animal shivering by the lobby door after he pulled up to his building’s parking lot. Let’s not forget it was really cold.

As Ashton slowly approached, getting closer and closer, he noticed something even more startling.

It was not a small animal, but a 2-year-old-girl who was crying and shivering. And it was around 3 AM.

Immediately after discovering the poor child, Ashton called his mother Vida Mazyck, who also lives in the building. She brought a blanket and together they attempted to provide warmth for the child.

Vida shared, “Her feet were numb. I kept saying, ‘Does this hurt?’ And she couldn’t feel me rubbing her feet.”

They also called the Worcester Police and reported the incident. They arrived on the scene and immediately rushed the young girl to the hospital.

Later on, the police reported that the young girl had been under the supervision of her grandmother, who was watching her while her mother worked a night shift.

While her grandmother was asleep, the toddler somehow managed to slip out of the house. While they do not know around what time this happened, she was barefoot and covered in salt and ice.

Ashton later shared, “I don’t know how long she was out there, but I’m just definitely thankful, you know, that I was there when I was.”

Ashton’s mother Vida was never the happiest about her son working late night shifts, but this time she felt super grateful for it. They were both happy that he was there just in time to discover the struggling toddler.

The little girl’s family is forever grateful that Ashton came to her rescue. He proves that most ride share drivers really have the best intentions. Sometimes they might just end up being our guardian angels!
