In 2017, Ed Sheeran released his hit “Galway Girl.” Sheeran himself is British, hailing from West Yorkshire in England, according to Biography.com. The music video is shot in Galway, Ireland and features the Irish actress Saoirse Ronan as the lead. Apparently, Sheeran shot the footage himself. A group of Irish dancers and huge Sheeran fans are shown a few times throughout the course of the video.

Recently, a group of young Irish dancers made a stunning tap tribute to Ed Sheeran. Not coincidentally, these are the same Irish dancers featured in the official “Galway Girl” music video, too.

On a beautiful, cloudless sunny day in Ireland, these eight Galway, Ireland natives take position and prep themselves to begin a stunning performance. But before they start, one of the dancers steps forward and takes a few moments speaking directly to the camera, saying hello to Ed and detailing their background and motives.

She then steps into a V-formation with the rest of the dancers, as an edited version of Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” starts playing.

As the song starts, the dancers layer their entrances, timed to the start of the lyrics. Each is wearing unique, audible shoes, similar to tap shoes. Within a matter of moments, the choreography kicks off, soon featuring acrobatic jumps. Their unique formation lends itself to a plethora of interesting, group-based choreography.

The vibrant dance is filled with a variety of subtle moves riddled among flashier choreography. In tandem, they create quite the visual spectacle.

About a minute into the piece, things change. More conventional Irish dance music kicks in, increasing the pace and tempo of the performance. The dancers proceed to perform a series of maneuvers whereby they turn their hips in tandem towards the other half of dancers.

The two sides of the V-formation take turns trading playful choreography, all the while tap-tap-tapping. The sound of their steps add another interesting element to the routine, complementing the music.

The Irish music eventually winds to a halt, while the dancers perform a fitting, slightly acrobatic finale before standing in place in their V-formation.
