A stranger filmed him in the act and the video was viewed 2 million times as the internet shamed him.

I was beyond disgusted yesterday when I saw a headline that read “Hideous Slob Shaves On Train, Flicks Used Shaving Cream On The Floor.”

I had watched the video earlier that day and my reaction was not one of revulsion.

But that’s the reaction I had after reading the headline. It seems to be a trend in some publications that think it’s funny to be cruel and elitist.

Some people are so “enlightened” and high and mighty about being “good citizens” that they tear down anyone who doesn’t fit their mold.

The “Hideous Slob Shaves On Train, Flicks Used Shaving Cream On The Floor” was listed on a website called BoingBoing, however, the link is no longer available.

The same headline is still posted on Announce Explorer and My Swimming Hobby.

A slew of other media outlets and social media commentators joined in calling the man “gross” and “disgusting.”

In my eyes, it’s those people that are the disgusting ones.

They are so privileged that they have no idea what it’s like not to have a home and to be able to properly care for yourself.

This man had just come from a homeless shelter.

And he shouldn’t be shamed on the internet so a bunch of spoiled brats can have a laugh and take for granted how lucky they are.

His name is Anthony Torres.

A stranger on the train took it upon his or herself to video Torres, 56, without his permission.

That stranger then further invaded Torres’ privacy by posting it online where it was viewed 2 million times.

That original video has since been taken down.

Torres told the Associated Press that he had just spent several days in a New York City homeless shelter.

One of his brothers gave him train fare so that he could reach his other brother in New Jersey.

He didn’t have a chance to clean up before getting on the train.

“I don’t want to say that I’m homeless, let everybody know,” Torres said. “That’s why I was shaving.”

Torres said he had a tough upbringing and has worked various jobs which were complicated by medical issues, including a stroke.

“When he [Torres] did what he did [shaving on the train], that to him was normal,” Thomas Torres, Torres’ brother, said.

Train passengers should have shown Torres some kindness, maybe by letting him know where the bathroom was.

Instead the train passenger decided to humiliate him on a national level.

“My life is all screwed up. That’s the reason I was shaving on the train,” said Torres. “I never thought it would go viral, people making fun of me.”

Thankfully some kindhearted people were not OK with what happened to Torres.

Someone decided to start a GoFundMe account for Torres which has since surpassed its $35,000 goal and reached $38,762. You can contribute to that here.
