It happens: We all have pants that will eventually get trashed. It’s part of our ever-evolving closets and lives! But what if we told you that instead of getting rid of your pants, you can actually use them for 35 other wonderful projects? Well, you can. See some of your fabulous options here.
Have stretchy, wide leg pants? No problem. Simply pull the pants up over your chest and cut down the center. Then take those two cut legs and wrap them around your waist and tie in the back. Boom! You’re ready for date night.
Don’t trash those baby pants so fast! Instead, cut off each leg — around the knee area — and then sew the bottom parts onto a short sleeve t-shirt that needs some freshening up. You’ve got a brand-new shirt!
Got some old sweatpants laying around? Cut them above the knees — also cut the crotch area. Then sew that part together to create the perfect pencil skirt.
Flip one leg over the other so that you’re looking at the back of the pants. Then cut the bottoms off along with the crotch. Ta-da! You’ve got a new tank top!
Take a fun-printed pair of leggings and cut off the legs so that you’re left with the legs and a new pair of booty shorts. Then take a bracelet and pull the legs through it, flipping them slightly over to the other side. Then do the same on the other side of the bracelet with the shorts. Glue them both down and you’ve got a bathing suit top!
This will be especially great if your pants have a ruffly waistband. Begin by cutting that off. Then cut the crotch, followed by the two corners on the other end — after that, you should be left with a dress that looks a bit like a tank top. Then, take the waistband you cut off earlier and sew to the sleeves for an extra flirty look.
Cut off one leg, turn it inside out, and then sew the bottom shut. Then sew that to the side of the pants to lift it up a bit/create a bottom and then cut off the corners. Take two straps (which you can find at a craft store) and sew them to each side of the back. Sew a latch to the top too. Fold over the top onto the front and you’ve got a chic backpack!
Take flowy, wide pants and flip them over. Then cut the top, crotch, and down the middle. Pull the two new parts apart and flip over just the front side, then sew. Throw a cute belt over it for a cute added detail.
If you have some old jeans that need some freshening up, draw a cute lace design on them with a sharpie! Sounds crazy, but it looks super cute. See for yourself.
Adding fringe on the end is a super fun way to make your pants all swingy! Find tassles at a craft store and attach them from the inside so that it looks as seamless as point.
Take a patch of sequins and sew them onto a pocket for a little extra flash, or sew a more bohemian fabric on one half of your shorts for an asymmetric look.
Why not paint your jeans? The how-to is pretty self-explanatory… Instead of buying brand-new jeans with paint on them, do it yourself! Have fun with it!
Combine two of the best options to create a somehow even better option! Bleach the bottom of the jeans before drawing a fabulous tribal print over it with marker.
Take your old khaki pants and turn them into a preppy pair of shorts. Take it one step further and add in a cute tiny polka dot pattern with fabric eraser.
Get rid of old denim by cutting them into little squares for the most chic coaster! Stitch the sides and even feel free to add patterns — there is plenty of room to get creative here.
Turn any old pair of pants into a cute corner bookmark! Cut out whatever shape you want — twice. Then sew both sides together leaving some space open so that you can fit the corner of a page inside!
