They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and whoever they are, they’re right!
At least, it is certainly the tastiest meal of the day when you make the right recipe.
Some of the best foods are breakfast foods: muffins, waffles, omelets, pancakes, and of course, french toast. You can make all of these meals a million different ways to meet your taste needs.
Of the sweet breakfast dishes, french toast is the best one – sorry pancakes and waffles, I still love you very much.
The kind of bread you get is crucial to make the perfect french toast, as is following the recipe step-by-step.
This recipe from Food Network Kitchen guarantees that you will make the perfect French toast every single time. You basically have to make it tomorrow, right?
- 8 thick slices bread (a hearty white bread should work, about 1/2″ slices)
1 1/2 cups whole milk, warmed
3 tablespoons light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted plus extra for skillet
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

You are going to want to get out the ruler and measure your bread slices for this recipe. As you can either buy sliced bread or an entire loaf at the grocery store!
Other items you will need are a baking sheet or wire rack, large and small mixing bowls, a skillet, and a large baking pan.
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F.
To get started, you are going to place the bread spread out on a wire rack or baking sheet. You’ll bake the bread about 8 minutes in the oven, then flip and bake for another 8 minutes.
After it is done in the oven, you will remove the bread from the rack and let it cool 5 minutes. Don’t turn off the oven! Instead, lower it to 200 degrees F for a step later in this recipe.
While the bread bakes, you will whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, butter, and vanilla in a large bowl. After everything is blended thoroughly, you’ll transfer the mixture to a large baking pan.
Once the bread is cool, you will it in the cinnamon-sugar-egg mixture for about 20 seconds per side and then transfer to a new baking sheet.
On the stove top, add butter to a skillet and heat it up on a low heat. Once the skillet is warm, transfer the slices of bread over and cook until they are golden brown (3 to 4 minutes). Then flip and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.
While you’re cooking the remaining slices of bread, place the finished slices of French toast on a baking sheet in the oven (warmed at 200 degrees F) until you’re all done cooking the rest of your breakfast.
Why have I never thought to keep my food warm in the oven when I am baking in large quantities? This is perfect!
Serve with butter, whipped cream, syrup, strawberries, blueberries, chocolate chips, confectioners sugar, or whatever floats your boat!
