How would you describe your personality? It’s a tough question. We often know ourselves less than we know our best friends.

Your hobbies can tell you a lot about the sort of person you are. If you enjoy reading, writing, or drawing, for instance, you’re probably creative.

But the things you spend your free time doing aren’t the only indicators of your personality.

Have you jumped on the houseplant trend this year, by any chance?

It seems that every person out there has caught on to the appeal of bringing greenery into their homes. And, as it turns out, the plants you own say a lot about the person you are!

It’s easy to see why indoor plants have become particularly popular during the pandemic.

According to the American Society for Horticultural Science, tending to a garden – and yes, that includes an indoor plant arrangement – is a great stress-reliever. We all need a bit of that after the year we’ve had.

Having your own garden can even boost productivity – and it’s so easy to set up, too. You only need a small space to set up a beautiful plant arrangement.

Let’s take a look at some of the best plants and arrangements for you below.

The Minimalist

If you’re a minimalist, you’re probably a little nervous about adding plants to your home. Will they make your space look cluttered? Not if you know what you’re doing.

When you arrange your plants, keep them relatively close together rather than spreading them across your home. This will make it easier to care for them. Minimalists tend to love hanging pots, small pots, pots in stands… pretty much any kind of pot, provided it’s discreet enough not to be considered “clutter”.

You might be into smaller plants, like succulents. But if you’re looking for bigger plants that are easy to care for, consider the Bird of Paradise, cactus, Ficus, Swiss Cheese Plant, or snake plant. You’re going for color pops of vibrant green, rather than an indoor jungle.

The Creative

If you consider yourself more creative than minimalist, then you’re probably on the hunt for a houseplant (or 10) that can spark creativity. Can plants really boost your creative nature? Apparently so – one study found that pot plants can boost creativity by 15%, so now you have a legitimate excuse to buy your thirteenth leafy thing in a pot.

Considering you’re a creative person, feel free to get creative with your indoor plant pots! You may want to use repurposed pots, decorative pots, ladder planters, or even your own hand-crafted pots. You’ll probably want to hang a few plants, too.

Some of the best indoor plants for the creative person are the Magenta Triostar, the Fiddle Leaf Fig, the Dracaena Compacta, and the Chinese Money Plant. Shoutout to the Magenta Triostar, which is particularly funky with its multicolored leaves.

The family with kids and a dog

Finally, if you’re a family-oriented person who’s kept busy with work and family life, that’s no reason for you to shy away from an indoor garden. In fact, having a space you can retreat to when you need a bit of “me” time might be a gamechanger in your home.

Kids and pets are clumsy, we know, which is why it’s best to use durable poots for your house plants. Plastic, wood, and metal are good choices here. Investing in a high shelf for storing your plants, or simply hanging them from the ceiling, should also keep your plants out of harm’s way.

The best family plants are the Jade plant, spider plant, and Asparagus fern. The spider plant is a particularly good choice for families with kids and pets as it’s non-toxic.
