People are more honest than you think and this research mirrors that. The experts who conducted the study had employed people from over 350 cities worldwide to pose as tourists.

These people were instructed to enter public places and turn in a ‘found’ wallet to an official working there. At the end of the experiment, they were surprised to find that in almost every country, people made the effort to return the lost wallets, particularly those that contain money.

Andrea Lessing, an employee at Goodwill in Norman, Oklahoma is living proof of humans’ honesty.

One day, she was sifting through donations at her workplace when she felt a strange lump in two sweaters. She didn’t think there was anything special about it.

At first, she thought that it was just a stack of books.

However, after further inspection, she realized that the lump was a large bundle of cash. She was quite shocked by what she discovered.

For Andrea, it was just another normal day for her at work.

She was in the back sorting out items. Little did she know that it’s the day that she’s going to come across a huge amount of money.

It was worth $42,000!

Even if she found that much money in donated sweaters, Andrea didn’t think twice about what she’ll do with the money.

She reported the lost cash.

Eventually, the company was able to find the owner of the money. They used the documents that came with the money to track the person.

Andrea believes in karma.

This was one of the reasons why she returned the money. She also considered her daughter and its possible effects on her in the future. She believes that if you do something good, something good will return to you.

…and she was rewarded for it.

After the donor was informed about the money, he immediately told Andrea’s supervisor to give her $1,000.

It was her reward for being honest and for doing the right thing. She plans on using the money to give her wonderful daughter a special birthday celebration.

Andrea’s act earned praises from people on the internet.

“Blessings work in mysterious ways, it was here’s to keep, BUT she decided to turn it in. Whatever financial situation she’s in please believe GOD will make sure she NEVER has to worry. Turning over that kind of money is pure honesty.”

Another one commented:

“Your heart of gold and sterling soul are worth so much more! You did the right thing, and that’s priceless. You are a WONDERFUL example to your daughter, and that is something that can’t be bought! Many blessings to a great woman!”

Andrea is such an inspiration.

She still did the right thing even if she’s not getting a big salary for her job. Plus, with a daughter, she could have just kept the money and used it to make her child’s life way better- but she didn’t. She chose to be honest and gave the money back.
