Lots of us go shopping with our favorite shopping partner, which is usually a best friend.
It’s nice to have a second option on our fashion choices or just someone to cheer us on in the dressing room.
But Oakland High School senior Sydney Uselton’s favorite shopping partner, Mandi Miller, wasn’t around.
Sydney also had to make sure her dress matched her date’s tuxedo.
So, she decided to text dressing room photos of herself in her dress to her date to confirm that their outfits matched.
At least she thought she was.
The three photos she sent never made it to their intended destination.
That’s because she sent them to the wrong number.
“She had meant to send it to her date that was going to take her (to a formal). But she’d gotten the numbers mixed up,” Mandi told Daily News Journal. “She was sending it to him so he could get a tux to match her dress.”
She ended up accidentally sending them to Tony Wood, a father of six.
Normally, one would just receive a brief response of “wrong number” or something along those lines.
But that’s not what happened here. Tony decided he would try and be helpful.
So, he enlisted his family in giving her an opinion on her fashion decision.
And all five children gave the dress a thumbs up.
Not only was he helpful but he decided he would also give Syd the kind of confidence boost you would get from a best friend. Even though Syd is a complete stranger.
“I believe this message was intended for someone else. My wife isn’t home, so I couldn’t get her opinion but the kids and I think you look stunning in your dress! You should definitely go with that one!”
Mandi heard about the text exchange and posted it on Twitter where it ended up going viral. That Tweet has more than 631,300 likes right now.
Tony ended up seeing the viral Tweet and reached out to Mandi.
“Apparently you have made my children Twitter famous! My 2nd youngest (not pictured, he was at chemo clinic) has a FB page for his fight against leukemia and one of our Prayer Warriors recognized the children! Btw, my wife agreed that the dress looked great! God Bless!”
Apparently, the family had a GoFundMe page that was created two years before Mandi’s Tweet to help them pay for their son’s leukemia treatment. A Twitter user tracked the page down and posted it in the original thread.
“Hope Twitter does it’s magic. Below is the GoFundMe link for Kaizlers treatment for Leukemia,” they wrote.
Their son was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia in 2015. Their original fundraising goal was $10,000 but donations soared to more than $63,000 thanks to Twitter.
“Doing a small, kind thing for someone … that can really affect them. And you never know what you’re going to get in return. You’re always more than likely to have a good day if you stay positive,” Mandi said.
Their story even landed them as guests on the “Pickler & Ben” show. Mandi said she was happy that her Tweet spread some positivity. You can donate to the family’s GoFundMe here and check out the original Tweet below.
