Live music is a powerful thing.
It can bring thousands of strangers together, unifying them into one collective energy.
No matter how old I get, I don’t think that I’ll ever stop going to live shows.
And for one woman, her age didn’t stop her either.
At 89 years old, Laura decided that she’d go to a Garth Brooks show for her birthday.
And according to her hand-made sign, going to shows wasn’t something that she did often.
Laura can be seen in the crowd holding up a big piece of cardboard that reads, “Elvis was my last concert.”
When Garth sees this, he can’t help but say something to the woman.
He gets her name from someone in the crowd and asks her how she’s doing over the microphone.
Laura is shown on the big screen, smiling and still holding up her sign.
It doesn’t take Garth very long before he realizes what he wants to do.
He hops off the stage with his guitar in hand and makes his way towards Laura.
The crowd loves it and starts to cheer.
He reaches the woman and tells her that she looks fantastic for being 89-years-old.
They have a little banter that goes back and forth and then Garth does something awesome.
He tells her that he’d like to sing a song for her.
So right there in the middle of the crowd, Garth starts to play his guitar and sing to her.
The crowd goes crazy again and starts to sing along with him.
Laura ends up on the big screen once again, still smiling and holding the sign.
Het family is all around her and one woman–who looks like she could be her daughter–actually starts to cry.
She is so touched by the gift that Garth has given to her mother that she can’t seem to hold back the tears.
Garth continues to play and the entire crowd takes out their phones to record the touching moment.
At one point, Garth turns around so that his back is to the woman and her family–posing with them for a family photo that they’ll never forget.
Garth finishes the song and the crowd lets out a massive cheer.
But he wasn’t done just yet with the birthday gifts.
Garth takes his guitar off of his shoulder and actually hands it to Laura.
This really gets the crowd going and the woman has a smile stretching from ear to ear as she accepts the guitar from Garth.
Then Garth makes his way back to the stage and continues the show.
It’s awesome to see such a famous singer being so genuine and kind.
He didn’t have to do any of the things that he did for Laura that night, but he chose to do them anyways.
It’s moments like these that remind us just how important it is to stay humble.
Garth Brooks is one of the most famous country singers alive and he took the time to give one woman a birthday memory that she’ll never forget.
No matter how important you become, you’re never too important to make somebody’s day.
